2010 vs. 2011

Other than the engine line-up change, and the new display in the dash, are there any other changes? New color line-up? New rims choices? Have a really good offer for ordering a 2010 F-150, but trying to decide if I should wait for the 2011's.

Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks.

the 2011 is supposed to feature a completely new set of engine options. I am thinking that the 2010 might be better if you want a truck that has its kinks worked out, since the engine options in the 2010 have been practically the same since 97 (maybe even earlier). But, if you want to have the latest and greatest, the 2011 would be your best choice.

x-2 let them work the kinks out of the new engines first.

The order guide for 2011 is released tomorrow so most answers will come then. You can compare a theoretical 2011 vs. your theoretical 2010.

New engines for sure and that is what most people have a strong opinion about. Either you want the new ones or the near bulletproof outgoing (outdated? ) ones. 6-speed automatic for all engines, manual shifting for at least some models/engines combos.

The color selections and rim choices continually evolve, so I wouldn't be surprised to see changes there.

There's no doubt in my mind that I'll be driving a 2011 shortly after they're released. I nearly bought an '09 towards the end of that model year, but I heard rumors of the new engines and decided to wait. It's been a long damn wait and there's no way I'll buy a lesser truck just to get a 'proven' engine.

At this point, I think the only reason to buy an 2010 over a 2011 is if the 5.4L has an advantage in fuel economoy over the 6.2L. Maybe someone who's done the research would know. That said, I bought a 2010 in March. Maybe I should have waited but there's always something better next year. I'm sure the 2012s will be terrific too. I finally pulled the trigger because I need to get my truck paid off before my wife can replace her car.

I don't think you are going to find the 6.2 in anything but the Raptor and Harley for introduction. The 5.0 and EB are going to be the top engines for a while.

I bought a 2011 Mustang with the 5.0 and love it. But, it is a first year unit and I understand there could be issues and bugs to be worked out (hopefully not). Since it is a weekend driver only for me, I really don't care. However, I use my F-150 daily and it needs to be reliable. For that reason, I went with the 2010. And you just can't beat the prices on the 2010s.

plus the rebate was like 4500 off just to start if it was a model year end close out!

"Lesser" truck..........really. Sounds like one of those people who ran out and bought an IPhone 4 as soon as they came out so they wouldn't have the "lesser" 3Gs, ask people how that is working out for them.

That is what this whole 2011 thing sounds like to me, spend a bunch of money on marketing because of an upgraded operating system. As I understand it there are not going to be that many "shock and awe" upgrades between the 2010 and the 2011, same frame, same suspension, same interior, same body heck the 09-10 still have the same doors as the 04-08.just a few gadget upgrades and the engine to get people all excited this isn't a total makeover or anything. Every year every company does this when the new model year comes out.

To the OP The 2011's will be nice for sure but then again every year they come out with a new model year there tend to be improvements as I hear the 2012 will with be another upgrade if not totaly new truck than the 09-11. It completly depends on your situation. If you need a truck now and want to save $$$ they are giving great deals I got over 10K off my Lariat 4x4 which you won't see on a brand new truck which saved me a ton of cash for mods. The 5.0 is supposed to deliver more HP with "around" the same gas mileage but there is no proof on that either. So short story long will there be a major holy crap the 2011 is 50 times better than 10 of course not but there will be improvements.

Heck if you got time when the 2011's come out there will still be some 2010's on the lots drive them both then decide. It is kind of hard to make a decision about a truck that isn't even released yet.

I have a feeling that no matter what truck you get when the 2012's come out we will all want one of those too

Can't really say engines been around since 1997 given valve train changes in 2004. (thats where the problems were IF you had any)

Re 5.4L anyway.

No manufacturer changes powertrains every year. That is significant. Each person must evaluate the risk of choosing a new design in the field. If the 2011 powertrains are as good as they look on paper, then every half ton from every OEM prior to them is "lesser".

The 6.2L probably gets better FE than the 5.4L for the same application. The 5.0L and EB certainly will.

People will get $10k off MSRP of a 2011 model by next summer. It is a cycle that happens regardless of any significant differences from model year to model year. The people that typically pay the premium buy a MY X+1 vehicle prior to spring of calendar year X.

If one wants $8+k off a new truck and needs it now, it won't be a 2011 from anywhere.

The build sheets are not posted on www.ford.com and the timing does not necessarily correlate to Ford's Build and Price web site.
