Thumbs up 2011 SelectShift Transmission Option

Just received my copy of My Ford magazine and on page 6 it talks about the 2011 F150's "coming standard with a 6-speed Automatic transmission with available SelectShift Transmission and Progressive Range Select. This option let's you switch to full manual shifting or simply lock out high gears so you have more control over when the transmission shifts"

It may be old news, but this is the first I have heard about the manual shifting option availability and I like the idea of this as an option. Maybe someone actually does listen to us.

There already is a fix for that. It's a TSB. A few of us have had it done. It works.

Where do you think they will put the switches to shift up and down?? There usually on the stick shifter but like in the lariats since they have the center shifter where would they put it. Hope they don't put it on the steering wheel cause some of us don't drive with both hands.

It will probably only be an option on the trucks with the console shifter.

Then when it's in drive you can tap it right and left to change gears.

Here's how Chrysler does it in the 300:

As you can see at the bottom where it says D there's a wider opening. This allows you to tap the shifter right or left to change gears.

Another option from the center console shifter idea would be paddles behind the steering wheel just above the cross bars at 3 and 9 o'clocks as below in the 2011 Taurus:

Out of the three, I hate that the most. Toyota does the up to downshift and down to upshift (it slides into D from the side), and Mazda does the down to downshift and up to upshift. I like Mazda's method much better

You can finally see in this pic where the gear selector switch and the Manual mode gear selector position are.

I hope someone makes a kit so you add paddle shifters.
