Make sure you reset the mileage computer before you go on your trip to get an accurate reading.

What I have: 2010 Screw, 5.5' box, 5.4L, 4x4, 3.55LS
Total distance driven: 3,381.4 miles (as of last fill up)
Fuel ecomomy: Overall - 14.91, Highest (of an entire tank) - 16.57, Lowest (of an entire tank) - 12.02

Mostly city driving but I do try to drive conservatively. These numbers are all hand-calculated, and I caution everyone to be wary of actually believing the computer MPG stat. While I keep my info screen on that at all times to give me a general idea as to what MPG I'm getting and as a reminder to drive conservatively, it can be way off. In the nine times I've filled up my truck, once it was off by 2.77 in favor of me and once it was off 3.98 against me. Being that far off 2 out of 9 times isn't a very accurate indication to go by. If you actually care to get real statistics, I recommend keeping a chart in excel to keep track of all the info like I do. Overall, my stats aren't too bad for a truck, but I hope things improve when I move in a couple months to a place that has more 45-55 mph highways vs. a city that makes you hit a long red light every few hundred feet.

Ugh. I hate that...I swear this truck uses as much fuel to get off the line as the space shuttle uses to clear earths gravity.

IMO there's a number of variables we can't control that pertain to gas mileage. For example: 1) inaccurate pumps (out of calibration), 2) change in volume of the gasoline in the tank due to temperature, 3) different additives put in the gas as required by local laws/changing seasons. To be near consistent you'd have to fill up at the same pump at the same time of day. Also, the fuel flow sensor in the truck is dumb. It's not going to send data that's inconsistent. If the MPG figure shown in the info center is different than our manual calculations, then the Ford techies have mucked with the program used in the MPG computation. However, it should be consistently higher or lower than the manual calculation.

That said, I have noticed a tremendous difference in highway MPG between doing 70 MPH and 55 MPH. I'll average 17-18 MPG doing 70 versus 22-23 MPG doing 55.

You are correct, and there is always a percentage of error. However, I do almost always go to the exact same pump at the exact same gas station and usually around the same time of day, too. And I doubt temperature has truly affected any of my readings thus far because it's summer in Florida. It's been hot every single day since I got my truck at the beginning of April pretty much. Mine is consistently between .61-1.53 over my hand-calculated numbers. The two anomalies threw me for a loop though, and I'm still not sure why/how that occurred but oh well.

"Chester the Moe-Lester" (XLT Scab, 4x4, 4.6L 3v, 6sp, 3.73LS w/18" wheels) consistently gets between 17.9-18.9 mpg. Mixed driving.

Hello all, new here.

I've had my truck for just under a month -- 2010 XLT 4x4, 5.4, 3.31 open diff. I am consistently amazed by the highway fuel economy. Over extended trips at the same speed (only me in it), the computer reads ~21 mpg at 72 mph, and ~23 mpg at 55 mph. Hand calculations prove that the computer reads high by about 1 mpg in both cases, but either way, I am amazed that I get the same mileage as my old 4.2 V6...with the 5.4. With 5 people and all their gear, I averaged 18.8 mpg over 250 miles last weekend. If I reset it around town, I get between 13-15 mpg.

ZERO complaints here! The tall gearing probably helps a little, and for me, it has plenty of guts. Even with the open diff and no locker, it made it over every hill at the Silver Lake dunes last weekend!

The Computer Lies!!

I purchased my truck in January 2010. 4X4 SCREW 4.6L 3V 3.73 gears and I have average 18.3 mix of interstate/city/farm roads. I recently took the truck to Alberquerque NM and I got 17.3mpg. I was running 78 on cruise but the steep hills I was constantly dropping into passing gear. Overall I love the truck just wish it got the economy of my old 1997 Powerstroke 4X4 3.55 I average 21mpg and it was bonestock. I got over 9000 miles on it now and I sure the mpg will get better once the truck is completely broke in at 30k to 60k miles.

How do you guys get those numbers. Mine is getting 13.2 and since I did the Gott's Mod im getting 10.0-11.4 the truck has only 40 mi since the mod. I understand that it has to relearn my driving habits. hopefully i can get it to the 17 and 18's. I mostly drive city. The speed limit is 45 and I only have three stop lights to work and about 6.3 miles of distance. So I really have short distance and should be doing atleast 15 to 17. Hope I cna get their soon. Going to reset the computer again and improve my driving hope it changes.

Latest trip I was helping move a buddy home from SD to MN. Had about 300 lbs of stuff in the back. 2010 XLT SCREW 5.4l with 3.31 gears was showing an average of 22.2 MPG. That was all highway driving. City driving I am seeing around 17-18 MPG. Both numbers are from the computer calculation. I haven't done any manual calculations.

2010 FX4 Supercrew 4X4 3.73 5.4L 3V -5400Km

Not as good as the brochure

Did a couple long highway trips recently, with me and a passenger. 300lbs of cargo.

Highway 14.7 L/100KM - Grande Prairie, AB to Edmonton, AB and back.
Highway 16.3 L/100KM - Grande Prairie, AB to Calgary, AB and back.
City 18.4 L/100KM - 5 Days in Calgary, AB

A long way from the claimed 25MPG Highway on the window sticker.

I've yet to see a F-150 with 25 mpg highway on the sticker. I show a 2010 5.4 4x4 at 14 city 18 highway.

Also, remember that in Canada, they quote Imperial MPG, not US MPG. There is a substantial difference between them.

2010 4x4 Platinum Supercrew w 2500miles. 14/18 on the sticker

Average about 16.8 mpg mixed city and highway at the speed limit.

Just did a 750 mile highway trip at 77 mph and got about 16.5 mpg. Expected more but at that speed I guess that all you get. It seems to like around 60 mph to get about 18-19 on the highway
