iPhone>USB=No You tube
pedro,
I want to view video while charging through the USB port because I can just use the orginal iPhone wire with no other adapters (ie 120v inverter). Its quick, simple and not clustered. I don't think my expectation is that outrageous, or is it?

this is what you need, can get one for like $10-15
Yes it is outrageous because you are asking the device to know when you want to just charge it, or when you want to output the audio/video to another source. The only cay for it to tell what you want is by the connector-type you use. First off, let's not watch youtube while driving in the truck since it's probably not the safest thing. Second, if you had a NAV screen, it would solve the entire issue since you could charge the phone, have the audio fed through, and the video would be larger on the screen.

azmidget,
I forgot to type in 'car charger', which I have, my bad.
First off the phone car chargers are rather bulky. Secondly I wouldn't leave the car charger plugged in all the time therefore whenever I have to charge the phone it would involve pulling out the charger, plugging it in to the cig. lighter and then plugging in the phone wire. It just seems silly since there is a USB port right there in front of me that I would just need to grab the phone wire and plug it in to the USB. This is what I will continue to do when I don't have other passangers but for the wife and friends that are addicted to Youtube (Sooner-which I've never watched inside or outside the truck) on a low batt phone condition it would be nice for them to continue to watch by simply plugging in the one wire in lieu of the car charge method decsribed above.
I guess this is what it is, thanks for confirming the USB function.
BTW - again I still love this truck.

I know about the lockpick stuff, but since he doesn't have the factory NAV, I was merely mentioning that he could get his wish if he upgraded to an aftermarket NAV screen where the "lockpick" is usually grounding out the parking brake wire for the head unit. Either way, it's not an issue with the truck or the iphone, it's just how electonic devices usually deal with a USB connection in regards to audio/video.
Not sure if I should start a new thread but we came across another Sync concern, not so much really an issue for me but for the wife it kinda is.
She plugged in her iPod Nano into the USB to play all her iTunes music but Sync message center said it failed to recognize (or something to that effect). I checked compatibility list and the Nano should work. I think we followed the Sync instructions correctly.
She absolutely loved the truck when I got it 2 weeks ago but its starting to lose points with her. Can someone walk me through the steps (I won't be offended if you explain it like I'm a child as long as I understand it and she can play her music).
thx

Head over to Syncmyride.com and read the iPod/Apple FAQs, especially the FAQ about syncmytunes (or is it syncmyitunes - can't remember).
Also check out the owner-to-owner forum. Your question has probably been asked and answered.

FYI
IPhone 4.0 is not compatible with the Sync USB connection. Only Bluetooth is supported. I charged my IPhone in to charge it a few days ago and found this out after some research. Somehow this also disabled the USB port. When I connected my IPod, the Sync would say USB empty. The only fix I found was to pull the Sync fuse in the passenger kick panel. I believe it was fuse #13, 5 amp fuse. Everything works now, but I will not be charging my IPhone in the USB port anytime soon.

Assuming this is your problem, (and you're using iTunes), just plug your device in and look for songs that are labeled "Track01" and the like. That usually means you imported that song from a CD you own and iTunes wasn't ables to identify it. You can right-click on the song and select "Get Info". Then click on the "Info" tab. From there you can fill out the track info. Btw, I'm using a Mac, so directions might be slightly different for you, but you get the idea. Good luck!

I'm not 100% sure but I believe a different error message showed up in the mess. center.
You guys gotta forgive me for this cause I'm such a neibie at it, but when a device (ie iPhone or iPod) is plugged into the usb should the mess. center automatically recognize it and give the options (either voice command or written) of what I want to do next?
Nothing happens when I plug a device in and as I mention in my post #26 I don't think the usb is properly charging the device.

On a side note, you said you were using an iPod nano. That will not be effected by the iOS 4.0 update described earlier.
EDIT:
once you have selected the USB device from the menu, you will have to wait for Sync to index your songs (up to 10 min for my iPhone the first time plugged in). Once that's done (may tell you there was an error, but that's ok if it's the error i described earlier) you can use the message center to scroll through the tracks or use voice commands to select songs, etc.
One way you know it's connected to Sync (at least on an iPhone) is you loose the ability to select songs through the iPhone, all song selections must be done though Sync. But I don't know about an iPod Nano, might not apply there.
