Cool new f150 models are to big and ?

I don't no about anyone else but my truck can't get out of it's own way, these trucks are big and sloppy and I hope ford comes up with a new design soon.
Other than that the truck runs great, and the interior desigh is super fine.
I had a 99 f150 for nine years and it was comfortable to sit in and quick like a cat,not like this truck.
I feel like I'm a kid behind the wheel,and I am 6'1-210.
Maybe if the seats had an arm rest or something.
Just hope they don't get bigger.
Don't get me wrong now I wouldn't buy any other truck around but FORD.

I'm not sure I agree with the rest, but funny you should mention the armrest. It's one of those things I have missed on both my 2004 and 2009. I had them in my '97 & '98, and they were so comfy!

I was watching the Lost finale the other week, and it looked like the ugly hummer had armrests built into the seats themselves, unlike the '97 F-150 where they were built onto the sides of the seats. Thought that was a cool idea, and wish Ford would add them back to the F-150 for sure.

I will comment on the seating issue, but to the opposite effect. I always noticed that people looked funny behind the wheel of the '97-'03 style trucks, because of the way the seats were low and slouchy, made everyone look small and funny-looking behind the wheel. But in 2004 and 2009 the seats have been much more upright making you look much more normal behind the wheel. And the 2009 seats are WAY more comfy than the 2004 seats (the '97 seats were perhaps too comfy/soft, made you slip way down and sink behind the wheel).

Perhaps the new engines coming will satisfy you, if you think it can't get out of it's own way. I feel it has much better pick-up than my 2004, and I'm almost always first off the line without slamming down on the gas and jumping/surging ahead like an idiot wanting to race. But I'm assuming you race by the sluggish comment since I have no trouble at stoplights/stops, so perhaps the new engines will be better for you.

Really, why did you even bother buying one then, should have stuck with an earlier model?

I had an 01 screw before this and a trucks a truck, its going to be big, bulky. I think id perfer it that way, otherwise get a midsize pickup. And now i even have the 6.5ft bed on the screw and its a beast, but i love it. ive got the 5.4 pushing 35's and while its not a lightning it still halls as$. IMO anyway. I would look into a tuner if you think the throttle response and what-not arnt to your liking.

Good luck.

And i agree, an armrest might be nice, not sure how it would look with the interior setup though. Dont think my 01 had them either though, my arms rest just fine on my door and center console.

If you think it's too big, deal with it for another couple of years and buy a new T6 Ranger.

That's what I said when I first drove one of these.

I had an '01 with a 5.4 and my '10 with the 5.4 seems much more quicker. It feels really strong when getting on the freeway. And I can tell there is much less body flex when going over uneven surfaces.

Joe did you go from an Lariat to an XL?

My 2000 doesn't hold a candle to my 2010... I love my old truck, but the new 3v motor and the 6 speed are much more refined and smooth. The low end grunt is more apparant with a load. The 2000 feels a bit more nimble, probably due to its shorter wheelbase and lighter weight, but the 2010 feels much more stable, especially on washboard roads.

The only two things I can think of that any of the old styles had that were better than the '09-'10 are the Captain's Chairs armrests, and the driver's door detent. I'm pretty sure those are the only two things I have ever been able to come up with comparing the '97's on up (have zero knowledge of '96 and below other than they looked like square boxes with big ugly metal rusty side views).

Come to think of it, I've no idea if they fixed the driver's door detent issue on the 2010's or not. So it's possible that's a non-issue now as well, although my guess is they won't bother changing that until 2012.

Oh, not that I myself care about this, but some have also mentioned the deletion of the light under the hood as an inconvienence. Again though, no idea if they fixed this for 2010 or not. Again also, I doubt they will revisit this issue either until 2012.

They seem pretty focused on the new engines more than any of the other stuff like MyFord Touch, BLIS, heated steering wheel, new factory remote start (what ever happened to THAT one, Ford?, massaging seats, LED's, HID's, etc etc. I'm guessing they'll be looking to build them out with a lot of that stuff for the next redesign/refresh. Who knows if they'll ever look at integrating the armrests back into the F150 at this point, but hopefully they'll fix the detent issue at least.

Funny you should mention this. I was just thinking this morning how I love the room in this truck. I'm 6'4" and 285 lbs and love how I feel in this truck. It's easy to get into and out of and with the captions chairs it's almost infinitely adjustable. The only complaint I would have would be not having a telescoping steering wheel to truly utilize the legroom.

Another pet peeve is that at 6"4" I have to get a step stool to wash the roof and really clean the windshield. It's a beast and I love it. I think it has more than enough hp and I find it does more than get out of it's own way. It gives me decent mpg while doing it too. It's the real deal, if you find it too big, why didn't you look into a smaller model? I don't understand the sloppy part either, I find it very nimble for a vehicle of it's size.

I never thought I'd see a post saying the F150 was too big. I'd get the F350 if it would fit in my garrage but I like my truck looking clean as much as possible between washes. Plus it helps being out of the sunlight here in AZ.

As for the arm rests, don't you just rest your arms on the door and center console? My last two were Dodges with the split bench and that's what I did. Arm rests would seem to get in the way of the flow through console in the Ford.

Did you test drive it before you bought it?

One thing I think your failing to recognize is that the '09-'10 models are the safest F150's ever built. In order to accomplish this you need to add structure which adds weight. Ford tried to offset that by using high strength steel. Your '09 is about 500-600 lbs heavier then your old '99, you can see the results of that extra structure in the crash tests. The '99 has a 3 star crash rating while the '09 is 5 star.

Get a sport trac if a 2wd Lariat is 'too big'. I personally hate seats with built in arm rests, a big console is much more comfortable.

Great point about the safety. The '97 model had TERRIBLE crash ratings, simply awful. The thing crumpled up like a tin can, good chance it'd kill you & your whole family in one accident. The '04 on up are very safe vehicles. The '09 up has even more airbags, curtains, k-bags, what have you to help even more.

Sport Trac! LOL!!! yeh, maybe that's more his size vehicle, but boy, I really hate that thing. I think Ford is discontinuing that thing soon, anyways. We can certainly hope. Better to go with an Explorer- or an Edge, which is new for 2011 and I believe even has MyFord Touch.
