Used 2010 F150-what's this?

I bought a 4-month-old used 2010 F-150 XLT from a dealer. When I got it home I saw something attached to the bottom part of the dash near my left knee. Don't know if this came with the truck or it's an aftermarket item. It also came with stickers on the window saying Safe-Guard Vehicle Theft Control. Don't know if this item has anything to do with Safe-Guard.

Thanks, Mitch

It is an after market security system. I would ask the dealer if they have the chip that plugs into it. Or you could try to contact the Safe-Guard Vehicle Theft Control company to see if you can get a replacement chip.

so a chip plugs into its and then there is additional security? I have asked both the dealer and Safe-Guard about this.

thanks,

Mitch

It is the chip, unplug it and the truck wont start. Had one on my 06 when I bought it.

It just kills the engine. Pull it out and the truck wont start. Think of it as a second ignition switch. Pulling the chip out effectivly cuts the ignition or starter wires in half.

So I should have received some sort of remote to activate and deactivate it?

No, just remove the chip. can't start the truck if the wires arn't connected.

I looked at the pic wrong. I stand corrected, the chip is already there as stated from other members. :o

I had something similar on my 2010. It was a security device and also let them unlock the doors on the lot without getting the keys. They removed it when I took delivery but left the screws in the holes. Kinda looks retarded but I hardly notice them any more.

Neither the selling dealer (this was not the original dealer who sold the car to the original owner 4 months ago) nor the company that sells Safe-Guard say it is their's or do they know what it is.

Now I don't know if it is a security device or used by dealerships to unlock their cars. If it is a security device I don't know if it is still usable by me.
