what is this? rear brakes

what is this thing on top of rear brakes. 2010 model.

thanks for posting the picture.

I figured it was something for that. Tried to look it up. couldn't find anything. parts list.

It looks like a rubber mounted weight. Ford has used them throughout the years to control noise vibes and harmonics.

Nothing like that on my 2009 with Traction and sway control.

Kind of a fancy design for a weight don't ya think? It doesn't appear to be rubber-mounted either, it's mounted to the back of the calpier bolt on the brakes. The rubber you see is just a dust boot.

Grab the big chunk of metal and wiggle it around, it is rubber isolator mounted. They hang chunks of rubber dampened metal on diffs, exhaust pipes trannys etc to reduce vibes.

It's a '4A263' - Axle shaft damper, $19.33 . Knowing this, I wont feel so bad if I rip it off wheelin.

Alrighty then, it just looked awfully ornate for something as simply as a vibration dampener.

I got this off the unit. al3v-4a263 then some other code aas3sqa,reqill, made in sweden. Seems solid except for the roundish part, can move a little. Its on the back side of both rear calipers.
