Lifetime fuel filter in 2010's

I read last night that the 2010 F150 has a lifetime fuel filter. That surprised me. I guess I can throw out my old fuel filter tool.

Another better idea - NOT. I think it's in the tank. Probably the same moron engineer that came up with the internal slave cylinder on the manual tranny.

Greeeaaaat. So now when my "lifetime" filter fails it costs me $800 to change instead of the $5 it used to cost me on the old model with the filter along the frame rail.

I'm sure that this is another dumb move by Ford...like waiting 100,000 miles to change the plugs on the 04-08 F150.

Hey, hey, HEY! Complaining about stuff not being the way it "used to be" is a right that comes with getting old...it's one of the few rights that come with the territory. I'm 40 now so I've got to start bitching about some stuff.

X2.

And even sadder - folks actually believing this crap - despite much visual evidence that the gaps are usually way out of spec by then, and the risk of breakage goes up with mileage ...

TCO stuff - like no zerks, 'lifetime' tranny fluid & rear diff fluid, plugs and now fuel filters -is for Ford's benefit, not the customer.

Your opinion, and you are entitled to it. However, I strongly disagree with you, and I am also entitled to MY opinion, regardless of my age!

Fuel filters are in tank on many vehicles nowadays. Its very easy to do. may take an hour but its not hard.

Hello.

That depends.

On a SUV with an access panel in the floor under the carpet ( nice little removable section to be hlepful), it is indeed not onerous.

On an F150? Last I looked there was no access from the pickup bed - so I presume a tank drop is required. Ever done a tank drop?

The other issue is that of the 'lifetime' rating - this will likely drive up the cost and availability issue, plus most folks will simply now overlook this maintenance.

I got one of my fuel filters and cracked it open carefully, and there was a nice coating of sediment in there... only have 9k on the filter.

I change the fuel filter every 3rd oil change at 3k intervals.

Just like the myth of 5,000+ miles on an oil change.

Surrrre. If you don't care about your truck then it's all is good.

I care about my truck, and the more user-replaceable items the better off I feel.

No one complained when?

They discontinued Oil Bath Air Cleaners and those pesky Oil Filters with the Toilet Paper roll

If your buying fuel from a quality source the small screen on the Fuel pick-up inside tank will suffice

I buy from the best suppliers around. Have you cut open a filter with 15,000 miles on it. Nasty.
