Well I replaced my fuel filter at 40K miles and found nothing but a gold-tinted filter media. No sediment at all, so I would suggest maybe you should find a better place to buy your gasoline. As far as the oil changes, I do them every 10K on all of my vehicles with full synthetic oil and a Wix filter, my oil analysis results are always stellar. You can claim that it's a bad idea, but unless you actually have factual data that says it's a bad idea it's silly to make presumptions.

I'm telling you, there are no better places to buy gas than where I buy. New Shell or Texaco stations with new tanks. I'll keep changing at 15,000.

I go to shell exclusively too. Think of it like this. You feel better when you give your body better quality food. Same goes for your truck. A few extra bucks is worth my truck having a better fuel

Changed my fuel filter yesterday at 17K. I buy all of my fuel at QuikTrip unless there is not a QuikTrip available, which is rare.

I buy 75% of my gasoline at QuikTrip as it is abundant in Tulsa being a Tulsa-based company. I actually work across the street from the QT headquarters! In any case, I understand wanting an external fuel filter, but in my situation, I've changed them after as much as 120K miles and opened them up to see nothing but clean filter media.

Maybe some people just get gasoline at old/crappy fuel stations.

Why should you have to spend extra money on fuel when a simple $10 part fixes the problem.

Call me crazy, but it also adds some extra protection against anyone who gets bad fuel.

If your filters are full of crap then I would suggest changing fuel centers! All new fuel pumps have much higher filtration systems than your filter in your truck.

I tried, but it blew up when I got the blow torch close. No one told me I was supposed to take it off the truck first!

I'll keep changing mine at 20k. I'm not close my favorite fuel station everytime I need fuel. I'm on the road quite a bit in the summer but always try to hit top tier fuel stations. You're lucky you can fuel up at the same station every time you need fuel. I don't know of many people that can do that.

I'm not sure if Stealth fuels at the same station or not. But I think these pictures would want to make everyone change their filters at least every 20k.

Putting the fuel filter in the tank is one of the stupidest things I ever heard.
Just like no tranny dipsticks. No drain plugs in tranny pan. I wouldn't mind the fuel filter being installed in the gas tank with the pump on one condition , a access panel was installed on the truck bed so I could change it with out lowering the tank or removing the bed. Still love Ford over all others. Used to change the filter in my 2002 f150 5.4 all the time then bang it on a piece of wood and watch all the black dirt come out. Miss doing that.
Now it's just clogging up and waiting for me to save up several hundred dollars to fix it. I am retired and 66 have the right to unlimited complaining.
Been there done that.

Transmission dip stick ... The 6R80 transmission does have one. It's just not convenient.

Transmission pan drain plug ... When did FLM -EVER- have one? Has to be before the 1960's. *Never owned a vehicle with an automatic transmission prior to that.

Fuel filter in tank ... And 99% of the general public NEVER changed the fuel filter when it was inline and not in the tank. Their symptom of when to change - fuel pump failure due to clogged/plugged filter. As others have noted ... Your gasoline provider/supplier is one of the main points of failure for clogged/plugged fuel filters (that and consistently running the tank near empty).

Spark plug change interval ... -IF- (platinum) spark plugs are properly gapped when installed , there is absolutely no reason that they wouldn't last 100,000+ miles. Unless of course, timing and other engine mod's have been done. *Heck, I've had copper spark plugs that lasted 100,000+ miles.

So complain, whine all you want but when was the last time you had to get-out the hand crank to fire-up o' bessy?

GEEZ gDM I love Fords and wouldn't have any other truck in the world, give me a brake. I know there's a small short dipstick after the protective cap is removed. It's just not convenient as it used to be that's all I meant.

I understand your point about the drain plug in the tranny and I know they don't come with them I was just blowing off some steam. I put my own in.

As far as the fuel filter I have had no problems in the last couple years and I buy my fuel at a reputable station. I just meant that I was used to changing them every so often when I do my maintenance a couple times a year . I really don't care what 99% of the people do because their pinheads and don't know any better, I do. (When I said the filter is clogging up just waiting for me to save money I didn't mean it's actually clogging I just meant I can't change it before it does, sorry that was very unclear on my part).

Spark plugs I never mentioned plugs but I do change them at the proper interval, so lay off.

I never had to crank up old Bessie thank GOD. And guess what I have an actual heater in my house, I don't burn firewood, I have a thermostat, I also have an automatic 6 speed transmission not stick AIN'T I lucky.

Give me break and lighten up MR. Senior member.

I might need you when I really have problems with my horse so I won't really tell you what I really think. Don't want the site to chop me Love Fords to much.

Post was not intended nor directed specifically towards/at you. If you look it's an amalgamation response to all/most of the posts in the thread.

And I do understand (am also **** about servicing all of my vehicles - past and present). But to all the whiners, and people that had < this gotta have, missed doodad, etc. on their 20year old rusted-out POS box >, like it or not, it's the 21st century get over it. Otherwse ...
  • be part of the improvement process and submit your thoughts/ideas/recommendations/etc. to FoMoCo.
    .
  • mod' your vehicle to add that gotta have doodad, whatchamacallit.
    .
  • go into business and build your own vehicle to your spec's.

What? You've never experienced the kick-back of the hand crank? Pfffffft!

I know there's a small short dipstick after the protective cap is removed. It's just not convenient as it used to be that's all I meant.
And I noted that it was inconvenient. BUT ... You COULD still - warm the trans' to operating temp', get it up in the air, leveled, and check the fluid level. COULD be part of your changing-the-oil routine, RIGHT? And BTW, FFT ... How often did you check the tran's fluid level in your previous vehicles? And how often was it low? And if it was low, weren't there external signs of why it was low? e.g. fluid on the ground, wet tran's, etc..

And guess what I have an actual heater in my house, I don't burn firewood, I have a thermostat, I also have an automatic 6 speed transmission not stick AIN'T I lucky.
Ever experience a bathroom fire? Fortunately we put-it-out before it got to the house.

Give me break and lighten up MR. Senior member.

Brake , right spelling looks like you couldn't wait break that tells me where your coming from. Has nothing to do with FORD. What's amalgamation mean? I don't want to complain to FoMoCo but I have in the past, I don't want to build my own vehicle wouldn't know where to start. I have never experienced a hand crank and don't care. As a matter of fact you probably didn't either your just acting cool when it's not cool to have your arm broken cranking. I know how to check the tranny fluid and change it with out you telling me how , as a matter of fact you probably don't know the proper way to remove and change ALL the fluid and change it properly with a filter. OH! my what's this little plastic plug in the tranny pan, DUH I don't know. I am smart enough and don't really need you to be nicer. I got a nice street sweeper I'd like to show you and it's not the kind that drives down the street with the big truck. From all the reponses I have read sounds like your outnumbered . What's the matter mad because most people have your number.
