Rear Electric Slider - why have it
I am ordering a 2010 F150. Rear Electric Sliding Window seems like a good option. But what purpose does it serve, except the obvious of being able to throw stuff in the bed, which I don't.
Heard about leaks. Heard about theives breaking it in and skinny guys crawling in. Heard from both my ins agent and ford sales guy they see a lot of replacements. I dunno!
Why do you like yours?
I don't want to not get it if there is some spectacular reason to have that I am missing!
Thanks

I find it difficult to open my manual window on my scab. I wish it was power so it makes it easier to open. The only downside is the need to exercise the motor often as the 04-08s seem to need some help to get working if they are never used. The cable needs to move as well to keep it lubed.
This is true. I did that in my 08 on a nice sunny day after hauling a load of Brown mulch in the bed. My entire dash board and most of the interior was Brown. Took several hours to clean that up...

Here's copy of my post in response to this thread on the fordf150.net forum: just in case you missed it.
As was said, just cracking the rear slider makes the air much less turbulent when you open the windows since it gives the air pressure a way out. It also works wonders for those with the sunroof, as you can vent the sunroof and open the rear slider and it creates a reverse-flow through the cab. This creates a nice breeze on the back of your head which can be conrolled through how much you have the back slider open.
I would venture that the guys who have the manual slider rarely open their in the extended cab/crewcab trucks because you have to get into the rear seats to open it. When the temps are about 60, I use mine daily.
Also, regarding breaking in; I doubt it. I can't fit through that window, so it'd have to be some skinny punk kids that did it. There are easier ways to break into a truck, the rear slider excuse for break-ins died back in the 90's.

It started in crew cabs because you could not reach the window manually while driving. It may be a little more secure than an manual latch, but they just pop locks these days anyway. I would go with a solid defrost window. Sliders let more noise in.
I have a power slide on my 04 F150 crew cab and I use it alot in the summer. I use it as a quick way to get the heat out of the cab. If you turn your ac on and open the rear slider it seams to get heat out much faster than with the ac alone. The only thing is if you open any other window it works backward and will fill your cab with the hot air outside.
I had a manual slider on a 97 F150 ext cab i use to have and I rarely used it because it was hard to reach.

I find this a VERY handy feature on my 09 Platinum SCREW. Opening the rear window an inch or so creates a really nice air flow, either from the windows or the sunroof (which I have). I find its night and day different. When I had a manual window in my 05 FX4, I almost never used it. Now, I use it regularly.
The trick is to leave all the windows up, open the sunroff and crack the slider for smooth air flow. The more you crack the slider, the more air flows through - so it's a wonderful way to adjust the air flowing through the cabin...this is one of my fav things about my '09 Platinum and I use it all the time

Another handy feature is when you are binging home moulding or other long objects from Home Depot you can open the slider, insert moulding and snug the slider up to the moulding to bring it home w/o it having to stick out the back of your bed and be tied down. Very happy I got it

Pros: Kids love climbing through it. I use it for good airflow.
Cons: Extra lines in rear view mirror. Couldn't get rear window defrost with this option. Extra cost.
Bottom line: This option was part of the overall package that was on the dealer's lot. I would not pay extra for this option.

EXACTLY!!
The rear slider is the single best combination with the sunroof and I use them together all the time! I never did use the sunroof much before due to the "buffeting" and wind messing with you head and especially the noise. Now, with the rear slider open I can even travel at freeway speeds with the sunroof open and it's tolerable...around town it's a real pleasure
