A lot of great dialog. Being from Phoenix I have no use for 4 wheel drive. But I do haul stuff and I like trucks. I'd rather drop the money on a Platinum.

Can someone elaborate on an aftermarket dash kit? Who sells them and where might I look at them?

Thanks for all the comments.

The 'kits' mentioned are probably the stick-on variant. It's basically an overlay, held on by double-stick tape. The option I mentioned is a refinishing of your stock pieces, not a stick-on overlay. Google 'hydro graphics' or 'hydro imaging' if you're interested in more info.

Get the Plat - you'll love it!! The woodgrain is more subdued than the Lariat as well Of, course, I'm not biased in the least bit

Google both Joshua Tree and Wood View (or something very similar), I added a few select pieces from thier '05 overlay kit to my '05 Lariat. Was a very close match, (actually their stuff had more "depth" than the factory woodgrain), but it was great quality and I never had an issue in 3.5 years of ownership.

I think if you just search around the internet for "molded dash kits" you will find something. I dont know of anyone that has ever done this, but its an option or get an fx4....Thats all i got.
Ebay always has a lot of random stuff too.

Thanks for all the replies. I pulled the trigger on a Silver Platinum with nav and a moon roof. Don't have much need for a moon roof, but the nav is a nice feature.

Ordered a Bedrug.
Items in the very near future are a lower grill, Invisicord, Blendmount, and BakFlip (I think).

I bet you will use the moonroof more than you'll ever use the NAV. Ii'm speaking from experience. Crack open the moonroof and open the rear back glass and youhave a nice cool breeze blowing on the back of your head. It reverce-cycles the air from the bed through the cab and out of the moonroof. I use it almost every morning when the temp is above 60 degrees!

I'll use the Nav a lot more than the moon roof. In Phoenix it gets pretty flipp'n hot and I won't be driving too often with the shade open, much less the roof. However, I am going to try that air flow trick while the weather is nice. Supposed to be over 70 today.

I've been using a Garmin for the last 8 years. I use a Nav quite often because I go to a lot of different high schools to referee games. Actually quite useful, especially for traffic.

QUOTE=rcmike;4024887]Im in the market to buy a new truck. The one that i really like has the sony navigation in it. Are these head units that much of a theft item and what are most doing to prevent this from happening { a perimater alarm }. It really made me think when i went to another dealer and saw that they pulled all of them out of the cars {F-150,flex } while sitting on the lot with a piece of paper over hole in dash saying they will install unit after car is sold. thx[/QUOTE]

Sounds like the best thing to do about the stereo theft problem in your area is to move the hell away, lol. I've never worried about my nav unit being stolen. There isn't much an alarm system is going to do anyhow, they'll have the stereo out in less than a minute.
