Dash removal with floor shift console
Dash removal with floor shift console
I have the floor shift with the console that connects directly to the dash. Does anyone have any instructions and/or pics of how to remove the radio/sync panel? I tried to remove it yesterday and could not get the two side panels off, (the ones with the ac vents in them). On the right side the panel goes behind the panel that covers the airbag and I don't want to mess it up and have my airbag deploy or break the cover panel for it. Also on each side at the bottom where it meets the floor console I can't tell if it goes behind the floor panel or not and it will not come out easy.
Thanks in advance.

I can't answer all your questions, but here are some instructions to get you started, assuming that the 2010 FX2 is pretty much the same as my 09 FX4. Basically you have to slide the center console back to get to the bottom screws that hold those trim pieces on. Here's my how-to on it to at least get you started:
Move the front seats all the way forward.
Remove the two screws that mount the rear of the console (one on each side).
Move the front seats all the way backward.
Remove the driver side bottom trim panel at bottom in the footwell. On my FX4 there was no finish moulding push pin retainer. It comes off pretty easy but be careful not to break the clip.
Remove the passenger side bottom trim panel in the passenger footwell. This part also comes off very easy.
Remove the bottom trim panel in the center stack. This pops off really easy. Be careful not to scratch anything. I pryed on each side with a small screwdriver blade wrapped in cloth.
Behind this panel are two bolts. Remove them.
At this point you can pull up on the sides of the floor console upper finish panel and remove the panel that goes around the shifter and contains the cupholders. This part is all one piece and mine came out hard. Make sure you don't have anything in the cupholders or the compartment in front of the shifter because it won't be there when you're done.
Remove the bolts on the driver and passenger side in the footwells that hold the console.
Slide the console backward a few inches to expose the bottom screw of the driver side trim panel - the one that has the shift on the fly switch mounted. With the bottom screw easily exposed, remove it.
Remove the trim panel working from the bottom up to release the retaining clips. You may need to wiggle things around a bit to get it off.
This process will also expose the bottom screw on the right side panel, but I was doing this process to install a brake controller so I didn't mess with that one. Hopefully these instructions can get you started.
