I was going to pull the trigger on a 2010 F150 Lariat 4x2 with the X-Plan and $4500 in rebates, but I just can't get past that ugly "wood" finish on the dash. That is absolutely hidious and I'm not sure I could ever get used to it.
Bummer too, the truck drove awesome. I prefer the 20" wheels.
Anyone think I'm nutz?

That's why I got an FX4 this time around. I had an '04 Lariat with the woodgrain and I never really cared for it. Depending on what options you want/need the FX4 with luxury package is very similar to a Lariat.
I'm in the same boat as you, but I did a little research because I'm not willing to let something as simple as wood grain trim pieces deter me from buying the truck I want.
The answer: Hydro Imaging (also called Hydro Graphics).
Simply remove the wood grain pieces and have them refinished in the color / pattern of your choice. I'll probably do some sort of carbon fiber look. It's not dirt cheap... but it's a fix to Ford's terrible design decision.
Another option is to replace all of the pieces with pieces from the FX2 / FX4 package. The problem with this solution is that the FX packages only have three buttons across the top of the center dash bezel whereas the Lariat has 6 buttons. Meaning every piece is a direct swap except the center dash bezel. I don't know yet if the Hyrdo Imaging folks can match the FX pattern. If they can, I might buy all the FX pieces and then have my center bezel matched to the rest of the pieces.
Hope this helps.

Nah, get what you like. Some pics make the wood grain look worse than it really is. I wasn't sure how I'd like it either, in my '04 Lariat or '09 Platinum, but it looked/s just fine. The only crazy part is 2x4. Maybe it's just me, but I'd never buy a pickup truck w/out 4x4. Then again, perhaps they've improved their performance in bad snowy weather to the point where 4x4 isn't necessary... but I don't want my pickup bed trying to swing around or get barely no traction in the wet, crappy New England weather.
If you don't like it, I'd do what others have suggested and just get it refinished.
IMO, the 2010 lariats have the most real looking woodgrain they've ever offered in our trucks...looks great to me!

I think the main problem is you are dropping a lot of dough for something with no 4wd!!! I know you live in phoenix, but i dont know i just have this thing with if its a truck it should be 4wd. See if they will put in an aftermarket dash kit for you..I would think it would be but a couple hundred for one and you can make it pink if you want.
not once have I needed 4wd
If I lived in a place with a bunch of snow, then and only then would I dish out the extra $3k+ to buy a 4x4.But I will admit, if I wanted to have a little more fun in the mud, I could do so in a 4wd vehicle.
I thought the same thing but thought sod it i am going to get it. Since then i have parked in quite a few places where i couldnt get out of with just 2wd and had to use 4wd. It paid for it's self on just them times alone let alone in the snow we just had.
