Considering upgrading an 08 to a 09+ for the traction control

Hi, I am a current owner of a 2008 F150 Supercrew that came with OEM BF Goodrich rubber. I don’t know if it’s the truck or the rubber but the traction sucks. I have had the truck for about 11 months and it was an upgrade from a 2001 Supercrew. On that truck I had the Goodyear Silent Armour Wranglers and the traction seemed really good. I am not debating on whether or not getting new rubber for the 08 or get an 09 or 10 with traction control. I was wondering for those that had 08 or older how do you find the traction control on the newer trucks. Is it worth spending the money on new truck for it? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I traded a '07 FX4 for my '09 FX4. There are many reasons that the '09 and up is better then the older model. To me, the traction control is not one of them. I would prefer being able to completely disable the traction control when needed. Yes, the traction control is nice on slick roads, but when you are in deep snow, I would prefer to be able to dig my way through. Not dig, stop, dig, stop! Last winter I was trying to climb a hill that had about 10 inches of snow on it. I tried holding down on the traction control button until the traction control indicator flashes. The truck would still either cut power or apply the brakes after allow me to dig my way up the hill a few feet. As far as things I like about the '09 compared to the '07. Seats, the seats in the '09 are much more comfortable. Mileage is about 1 MPG better. The 6 speed transmission with two/haul pulls the boat much better. The Sony sound system is awesome! Sync is cool!

why not just do some stuff to the '08 to make it a kick *** truck? it'll be waaaaay cheaper than upgrading! just throw some blizzaks on there if you want traction. they're around $1000. a new truck is $30K plus.

the grass isn't always greener on the other side. there will always be a reason to get the newest truck with the newest stuff, no matter what you have.

and 1 mpg better? is that justification for an upgrade? you'll have to drive that thing forever to make up the difference on your trade-in. but guess what, you'll already want another truck long before that happens anyway.

Thanks for the replies. Just so I understand correctly, the traction control is active in 4X4 hi/low or just when in 2 wheel drive?

Cheers

I thought it was disabled in 4Lo. When you switch to 4Lo the TC light will flash on the dash display.

I cant think of one person on this board that is in favor the traction control. Worst move Ford could have done... who puts a program on a truck like traction control that wont allow you to disable it? might as well of bought a 2wd since I can barely plow through the snow on northern roads at the cottage now... bunch of BS. Hope Ford comes up with a program to allow a full deactivation is wanted. Ford should have no stake in an issue if someone puts their vehicle in the ditch if the driver decides to turn it off.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I will try to find some extra wheels and get some winter rubber instead seeing that the traction control has such high reviews .

Cheers

I liked the Limited slip differential in my 07 over my traction control in my 2010. Pulling out while turning is dangerous in this new truck. The motor cuts back while one tire is spinning. My 07 I could pull out whlie turning like a mad man and never felt scared. My new truck has frightened me several times becuase the traction contorl activates and cuts power while tyring to pull into traffic.

Exactly why i think that it is a joke not being able to disable it 100%

Don't know how many miles you have on yours with the BFG, but when I had my '06, those tires lost traction quickly as they wore....and they wore fast. I replaced them at 25,000 miles and the traction greatly improved.

Right before I replaced them it was almost impossible to take off with wet streets.
