Remote Start behavior
I had the dealership install remote start for me before I purchased the truck and my engine shuts off while other trucks on the lot with remote start installed from the factory keep running after you open the door. The Service Dept called Ford and said they couldn't override it. Can you ask your dealership what they did so I can take that to my dealership to fix mine where the engine doesn't shut off? Thanks!
I assume mine was factory installed as it was made in Kansas. After starting, by remote, it dies when I open the door. The factory manual that came with the remote, said if you wanted this changed to return to dealer. I guess they have to hook it up to a computer.
as mentioned, this is due to the new 2010 My-Key settings. I have the Ford remote start technical files that tell you how to change the programming options for the system. You can disable that feature so it doesn't shutdown when opening the door. All you need is these instructions and also you have to locate your black programming button and the LED light for the system. I have the files for both the 1-button rmst and the 6-button rmst/alarm system. Email me through my profile and I can send them to you.
Bought a 2010 Lariat fully loaded including MyKey, had the Ford accesories remote start installed at the dealer yesterday. Engine stays on when I open the door and put the key in. The only time it turns off is if I accidentally step on the break before I turn the key to the on position (2 clicks). I asked the dealer and tech about what I've read in this post and they both said that the engine off on door opening would only happen on a key that is programmed with restrictions under MyKey. Doesn't seem correct from what I've read here, but that's what they told me. Guess I'm lucky, and happy, because mine works the way I want it to.

BlacknTan, what it sounds to me is that your dealer totally disabled the MyKey feature on your truck. That is another way to get around the problem, besides just simply changing the programming options for the rmst system.
The dealer may have disabled MyKey, not sure. I see it on the menu, but won't need it for another 18 months, so I don't want to chance turning it on and jacking up they way the remote start is working now.
The way the dealer explained it, even if it's (MyKey) activated, it will only affect the key(s) that are restricted by MyKey. That is contrary to the above posts and to the manual that came with it, which states that MyKey and "Intelligent Access" equipped vehicles will shut down when the door opens as an added "safety feature".

The issue here is not that they have or need to disable the Mykey system in order to keep the truck running. The truck doesn't know the difference.
What's happening here is the truck only looks for the transponder in the key when it is first started. When using the remote starter the transponder installed in the unit is what the truck reads. If you do not shut down the engine and restart it with the key it doesn't NOT know a key with a different transponder is in the ignition.
If the now used key was programmed as a MyKey the computer simply does not know it exists. So this has essentially bypassed the Mykey system.
Having the engine shut down when you open the door is the way Ford decided to combat this issue. They will no program it to not do this since it bypasses the system and Ford doesn't want the liability. If your dealership did, that's good for you but not so good for them. It means they are not following the rules.
I guess the simple way to have this both ways if you need to keep the Mykey Functionality, is to not allow the person you want to be limited with the Mykey to have a remote starter remote, and do not start the truck with yours for them. When they start it the old fashion way with the key it will read their key and active the Mykey Settings.
