That link is for the open door shutdown procedure. Do you know how to configure it so it acts like a true remote start. As I mentioned before, my truck shuts down as soon as my key enters the ignition.

Anyone have any experience getting the remote start added after the fact? I just bought a used '09 and woulodn't mind having that feature ..... if it's NOT to outrageous to have a dealer install it. What seems to be the 'usual' cost for this?

Contact Travis at kcautosound.com and he can provide you the unit, detailed install instructions and you can save a ton of cash doing it yourself...

Fyi.....

To: All Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers

Subject: New 2010 Model Year Security Enhancements for MyKey or Intelligent Access (push-button
start) and GFA Remote Start

PROPER OPERATION – GFA REMOTE START AND MYKEY OR INTELLIGENT ACCESS
ENHANCED SECURITY FEATURES

New 2010 model vehicles equipped with GFA Remote Start and the new MyKey feature or Intelligent
Access (push-button start) have enhanced security features.

Once the vehicle has been remotely started, the enhanced security feature will turn the vehicle
engine off in the event of the vehicle doors being unlocked or opened.
Only vehicles with the combination of the MyKey or Intelligent Access (push-button start) feature with
GFA Remote Start will have these enhanced security features designed to operate in this fashion.
Dealerships should not attempt any repairs to the MyKey or Remote Start systems if the customer is
bringing in their vehicle for concerns relating to these enhanced security features.

SALES DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL
• Review the new security features since they are different than prior models with remote start
without the MyKey or Intelligent Access (push-button start) features.
• Prepare to explain to customers these enhanced security features on vehicles being sold with
remote start and the MyKey or Intelligent Access (push-button start) feature.

SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL
• Dealership service personnel should be familiar with these new security features since they are
different than prior models with remote start without the MyKey or Intelligent Access (push-button
start) features.
• Dealership service personnel and specifically service advisors who may have customers return to
the dealership for concerns about the remote start and MyKey or Intelligent Access (push-button
start) functionality should be prepared to explain to the customer these enhanced security features.

Important: Dealership should not attempt any repairs relating to this functionality if vehicle is equipped
and exhibits correct functionality as described in "Proper Operation".

Do you have a link for that?

If this is the case, I'm definitely going to demand a refund.

I'll put together the instructions tomorrow morning and give an admin/mod time to respond, this may cause issues with your warranty so you will have to change the setting back when you bring it to the dealer for any warranty work.

Sounds good. If you dont get the go ahead, dont worry about it. I'll just go back to the dealership and demand a refund and go get a real remote start and alarm.

I already called their service dept a few days ago and he said he was going to call Ford about it.

I don't see the big deal in emailing the info or even posting it here.

The Ford tech line for the remote start systems is 1-800-Ford-Key, you could try calling them and ask about the Mykey/remote start issues.

Agreed. Here is the full manual, just look for the MyKey section highlighted in yellow (page 7) and follow the instructions to disable the MyKey override on page 8 -> Option Bank 5 -> Option 5. Enjoy!

^I just downloaded that file. as far as I can see, it's only a partial excerpt from the manual and it only shows how to change the options (option banks 1 - 5) on the 6-button remote start and alarm system.

If you have the 1-button remote start, there's only 2 option banks so you need to find the updated Mykey settings for that system's option bank settings.

You can find the various Ford remote start manuals on this website, goto install instructions and then electronics: http://www.fordaccessoriesstore.com/GfaWeb/techSpecs.do

but I don't see any revised manuals on that website that has the MyKey option change.
