HOW TO: USB 2 to Glove Box install (no console)
DO NOT ORDER THIS CABLE UNLESS YOU WANT TO MODIFY IT!
If you look at the stock cable that came with the truck; you will see that there is a corner that is cut off and grooved. The other USB port is opposite. If you order the cable you will have to cut the corner that is not cut and sand it down. Once its cut and sanded down it will connect. Its a really snug fit.
No need to pay up for a Ford cable. Just got to Micro Center of even E-Bay and get an 3' USB to Mini cable and a Female USB to mini adapter. $10.00 for the cable and $3.00 for the adapter. Velcro the hard drive to the back of your glove box and nothing will move, unless you want it to.
Had a cable and adapter lying around so I just did this and it works pretty good, took not even 5 mins! Thanks for the tip!
In case anyone needs to order some cables Monoprice.com has them cheap.
USB A Female to Mini 5 pin (B5) Male Adapter $1.84
USB 2.0 A Male to Mini-B 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable w/ Ferrite Core - (Gold Plated) - 3ft $1.19

I used an old Blackberry cable I had. FREE! It was for the Pearl or Curve, and I have a bunch of them. If someone wants one, I have 1 or 2 left. Just paypal me for the shipping cost and I'll mail it out.

However, if anyone is interested installing a USB port inside their console...I plan on using the above adaptor, a M-F A cable, and a USB port saver:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/se...=4811&x=14&y=8
I figure I'll be able to cut a small hole inside the console and install the port saver to have a finished port that any USB cable can be plugged into (or removed) at will
This is not working for me and my iPod nano.
I know the iPod is not the problem because it works fine in the USB jack on the dash.
I bought the monoprice USB female to USB mini male connector. The mini USB end of that went into the USB2 slot on the sync module. I plugged the USB end of my iPod cable into that, and then connected the cable to my iPod, but the iPod doesn't get power and my 2010 F150 tells me that USB2 is empty.
Please help.

640 gb drive just arrived, will pick up remaining parts tomorrow
anything special I need to do to configure the drive so that it works?
I also think I'm gonna edit my music collection, delete my tunes on my zune then reload so I'll have less trash to filter through

Your hard drive is probably already formatted as a FAT32 filesystem, but if it happens to be NTFS, then I've heard that SYNC doesn't support NTFS. In that case, you'd need to reformat it to FAT32 - some simple instructions if using a Windows computer:

Nothing will run on Windows 7 ..... However I was able to load SwissKnife to my Windows XP machine and was able to format the disk in FAT32 ..... and it works. Really appreciate the help guys. Now once I get the adapter in the mail I'll try the USB2.
(Update): The Swissknife app only left 60G of HDD space to use (out of 320G). I went to the Verbatim site and found their FAT32 download and "viola" all 320G of hard drive is available now.
Got to say, for the inexpensive cost of this "mod" the cool factor is high. I velcroed the hard drive to the back side of the glove box and everything is out of sight, even if you open the glove box.
I doubt if I'll ever use the CD player considering I can just about load my entire music collection.
