Lightbulb GREAT ideas on this forum - USE them, Ford!

I'm pretty sure I already said this in Barritia's thread, but why the heck are FMC engineer's not listening to all the great ideas like this one on here???

The USB port in the open is just a stupid idea. ESPECIALLY with the fact that most, if not all, other Ford vehicles have the USB port inside the console for secure use of your ipod, hard drive, etc.

C'mon, Ford. Some of these things, like hidden USB port, Upfitter Switches, LED tails & turn signals (mirror fronts), HID's, adaptive headlights, BLIS, heated steering wheel, etc. are just such easy add-on's/option's. Just do it. Gotta be a lot easier than the guys doing the sheet metal/frame changes for 2012. Take some pride and make your vehicles better each & every year. Been doing a stellar job on most every model guys & gals, so don't forget about the F-150 just because it's a slow moving big heavy vehicle and opposite of your new Fiesta & Focus launches soon. Plenty of us still want 'em!

Is the thin rubber liner on that tray glued in? Mine doesn't seem to want to come out that easy.

Sync doesn't seem to want to recognize my hard drive. Anyone have this and find a fix for this issue? iPod and thumb drive work.

Not sure why it won't work. Does your hard drive require 2 USB cables or external power to power up? I use the Western Digital Passport, it only requires a single USB to be powered. Also other have said you need to format it to FAT32

It powers through the USB. It is getting power, because I can hear the disks spinning. I tried to format, but I'm runnning Windows 7 which only fomats in NTFS or exFAT (drives less then 32G). I'm going to have to find an old XP machine and give that a shot.

Tried it on an XP machine and no luck. XP only will format in NTFS. I'm at a loss at what to do now.

Google Fat32FormatterEN.zip or Fat32Formatter.

Not sure if it will run on Windows 7 or not, but it's worth a shot.

Nothing will run on Windows 7 ..... However I was able to load SwissKnife to my Windows XP machine and was able to format the disk in FAT32 ..... and it works. Really appreciate the help guys. Now once I get the adapter in the mail I'll try the USB2.

(Update): The Swissknife app only left 60G of HDD space to use (out of 320G). I went to the Verbatim site and found their FAT32 download and "viola" all 320G of hard drive is available now.
Got to say, for the inexpensive cost of this "mod" the cool factor is high. I velcroed the hard drive to the back side of the glove box and everything is out of sight, even if you open the glove box.
I doubt if I'll ever use the CD player considering I can just about load my entire music collection.

Nice Mod. I just installed a $20 ebay 80GB in the glove box using a $6.50 mini USB to Mini USB and a 2" square of velcro--out of sight, out of mind. My center console is for my phone, beer, and fishing bait.

I didn't format anything. Just "export" HUGE playlist from itunes to the ebay special HD in MP3 format, then plugged into truck. Sync took about 20 minutes to index so I can now say an artist of song. From past exp, it's nearly impossible to export Library, but it's easy to sellect all from library and drag into a playlist called TRUCK, then drag playlist to the USB Drive icon.

It's full of MP3s and works like a charm using the sync indexing and voice commands shuffle on, artist butthole surfers.. Not bad for a mac user.

So what format does a USB hard drive need? NTFS or FAT32? Want to do this mod this weekend.

Could I get a "play by play" on how to go from an iTunes playlist onto a FAT32 drive? I've tried dragging and dropping, but that doesn't work. Thanks!

Why dont you just drag and drop your music from your computer straight onto the drive? As long as the tags are there Sync will index them automatically.
