2009 Leaking Rear Window?
So I got my truck (2009 Super Crew) about a month ago, my truck was built in March. I found out late last week that the third brake light had a leak, and not a small one by any means. I fixed the light with some weather stripping for the time being but I started looking aroudn and found alot of rust. At first I thought it was just the brackets under the back seat but I was looking unber my front seats today and anywhere there is bare metal it has rust. Do you guys have rust in these areas? It seems like any bare metal in the truck at all or painted metal that has tool marks/scratches is rusting. Thinking about it a little more I think of the truck sitting on the lot in the hot Florida sun. Knowing that it rains almost everyday for like the last 2 months I can imagine a rust growing machine inside of the truck. I am afraid of what is going to happen 2, 3, 4 years down the line. Am I thinking too much about this?
I just took delivery on a 2009 F150 Platinum two days ago, and am heading to London for a couple weeks. I'm a little worried about leaving the truck outside because I'm not sure if this build has already taken care of the leaking rear window issue or not. I might have to cover it.
Knightsae, I have not pulled any carpet back yet, but I will. I was assuming that since I have no odors or stains, that I caught mine in time. But, after hearing you finding all this rust, I will definitely look around the cab of my truck. I'll keep you posted on what I find. I don't think you are worrying too much as we pay a lot of money for these trucks to have this sort of problem.
Thanks for checking Ford Crazy. I am taking the truck in on Tuesday and will give you guys an update. Removing the third brakelight is only 2 screws (phillips heads ) from the outside. Ford relys on a rubber/foam gasket to keep water out of the cab from the third brake light.

I noticed a set of water leaking runs down my back window after a visit to my "touchless" car wash 1 week after purchasing my 09 Lariat SCREW. I called my dealer and informed them I was bringing it in for the leaks. It got dirty before I was to go in soo ran it thru the wash again. This time I hand NO LEAKS!!! Called and told them of the disappearance of the leaks and they said to bring it in if it starts again. I've been thru at least once a week every since and NO LEAKS, very mysterious!!!
johnwayne, your leak is still there. Mine was not every time there was water present either. Fixing it yourself is not a problem, as it is just two screw to remove the light. Remove the light and run a bead of clear silicone around the gasket and reinstall the light. Then run another bead of clear around where the light (plastic lens) actually meets the body of the truck. I would not wait to see the problem appear again as it may be in a huge rain that fills your truck with water.
Knightsae, I have not pulled my carpet yet as we had a 13th B-day party this weekend that has killed us, but I will look this week. The weather here has finally turned nice, so I can work on the truck some.

I finally got out and checked the bare metal components in the cab of my truck regarding the third brake light leak. I have no rust in my truck that I can see. I also pulled the tray under the seat where the fuel funnel is located and the metal under there was clean also.
So I pulled up some carpet where I could and didn't find anything major. I did however look around alot more and I have found rust under all the seats (fron and rear) and I dropped the glove box down and you can see rust up under the dash board. There is rust on the motors onter the front seats. I did n't get a chance to take it in this week but next week we should be good to go. Hopefully they take care of it.

So I finally took my truck in. This time I was sent to the 'body shop' instead of the service department. The guy just took picutres and sent them to Ford. I did bring up the fact that there is rust everywhere and he said that it is normal which very much surprised me. My next stop was the sales lot and I walked around for about 10 minutes looking for trucks that were built at the same time as mine to see if they had the rust. I couldn't find one built in March but found one in April and there was not a speck of rust anywhere. I walked inside and spoke with a sales manager (boss of the guy that I bought my truck from). I showed him the difference in the two trucks and he said yep, there is a difference and that was pretty much it.
I heard back from the body shop guy, he said Ford gave them the go ahead in replacing the lowers of both the front and rear seats. He was unsure what exactly would be replaced as I wanted the entire seat replaced cause I found rust inside the seats as well. I guess it looks like I am in this for the long haul.

Good luck getting your truck fixed as it should be knightsae. It is unfortunate that the Ford dealers are not addressing these issues any better than they are. I have been real proud of Ford for not taking any Fed money and positioning them selves better than the other two domestic auto makers, but if they can't handle their problems any better than this, their success may be short lived. I still love the trucks, but apparently their service departments leave a little to be desired. I hope that Ford has folks watching these forums and can see the problems and frustration that their customers are experiencing.
