"Payload" Featherweights
My 09 platinum 2wd(no real options besides the Sony stereo) has a 1395(I think thats what it was) payload rating. It was better than I thought it was going to be. I guess maybe because i have the 4 leaf springs in the rear, lighter weight forged wheels(lighter than the cast on all the other models), 2wd vs 4wd. I dont think I will ever max it out with what I do.
My 1998 f150 4x4, 5.4l, reg. cab., 8' bed came with 3 week leaf springs in the back from the factory. 3 leafs are great if your driving a V6 shortbed, but silly in a 5.4l v8. I wasn't able to tow or haul much without the dreaded rear end sag. (My 1987 s10 4cyl had 4 leafs)
To fix this I installed 2 extra leaf springs on each side and a set of 3 overload springs on top. Nice stiff ride unloaded, nice and level when pushing the lawyer set limits. The truck handles heavy loads and the suspension is much more stable feeling around turns. What it should have been from the factory to begin with.
Since I need a hauling / towing cap. in the majic space between a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton. I could either buy a light 3/4 ton or a heavy 1/2 ton. After punishing the f150 for several years the next truck will be a 3/4 ton for sure.

Just loaded my xl down with 5500 lbs in the bed, didnt go far but got up to speeds of 50 with no problem, the truck was sagging but didnt come close to the ground to scrape or anything like that and handled very good.
Many GMs are 2 + 1 but can be thicker.
Old thread but a good one...
MY 2010 FX4 Screw 6.5 bed has 1438 payload. Saw a Lariat yesterday with 1849 Payload! was shocked. Checked the rest of the F150s and they we all 900-1400 payload. Was there to buy an F250 PSD. I need roughly 1350 pounds for tongue weight and had decided on a 3/4 or 1 ton but I like the F150s and the new eco boost is nice. What the highest payload anyone here has in a 150?
jcb206, I highly recommend spending the extra $500 for the F350 to get an extra 1000 pounds of payload. The diesels need it as they are heavy.
Someone @ RV.net has an 2011 XL Supercab with the HD payload package (8200 GVWR) and his sticker is in the 2550 pound range.

I agree on the F350. Meant to say was there looking at F250s. Can't find any SRW F350s in my area. Would have to order one. Thanks. Saw one in OKlahoma two days ago. F350 SRW King Ranch SCrew 4X4 with 3500lb Payload. Now thats a truck.
Your right, my coworker has a 2011 F350 SRW Diesel Lariat, fully loaded, and I was expecting about 3500 lbs of payload. He has only 1900 lbs of payload according to the Tread Act Sticker. Just shook my head. Still enough for simpler things but not enough even for a truck camper and his stickers for $65,000 and he got it for $56,000! I can't image paying that type of money for a vehicle. He could had bought 2 of my F150s and had a total payload of 2,860 lbs .

BTW, my XLT in my signature has a 1430 lbs payload according to the Tread Act Sticker. With my Bedrug Bedliner (20#s) and my Extang Solid Fold Tonneau Cover (50#s), I'm actually at 1360 lbs payload. My previous similar optioned 2008 Sport Trac 4.6L 4WD had a 1218 lbs payload according to the tread act sticker but also was optioned with the factory hard folding tonneau cover which weighs 70 lbs. So it's actual payload was 1288 lbs, more than some heavily optioned F150s and most 2011 Rams I looked at.
With my payload, I calculated I have enough to pull a Travel Trailer with a 'dry weight' of 5900 lbs . Loaded with gear, clothes, food, propane, and water it would be about 6900 lbs. That puts me at about my current payload (~ without an actual camper and without weighing).
My current Jayco 19BH is 3900 lbs dry weight, and about 4900 lbs loaded weight. It was well within my Sport Tracs tow and payload ratings and even more so now with the F150.
