To Nav. or not to Nav?

Looking at a 09 King Ranch 4x4 with no Nav., no moonroof, 18" wheels.

I like the idea of it being around $3500.00 less but am I going to regret not having above?

Should I get a 2wd loaded or the 4X4 w/o anything??

Thanks!

pro's & con's

I am currently waiting for my new Lariat 4x4 Screw.
No Nav. ( I know where I am going)
No moon roof ( don't want leaks 3-5 yrs. later)
No rear window (wanted the defrost and NO squeeks)
I put the 3,500 into the Lariat plus pkg. & chrome pkg & Sony system.
Everybody's got their "gotta have's"!

I've never had a GPS or NAV of any kind before a week ago.

I haven't used the NAV for navigation yet, but don't think I would want to go without the rest of the functions.

On the NAV screen, you can do all your climate controls and audio controls - all with touch screen. Plus, you can do all the same with voice commands via SYNC and watch SYNC carry out your commands.

So, just be sure that you realize that the NAV is much much more than just a navigation device.

You should buy it exactly the way you want it.

i wouldn't own a truck that's only 2wd. i know a lot of ppl who would disagree, but that's just me.

i don't really want the moonroof, etc. i do LOVE my factory nav.

it all comes down to what you want.

I got a 4wd FX4 with the luxury package. No moonroof. No Nav. I regret not getting the Nav.

After a discount I don't think it is much more than a better aftermarket stereo headunit, speakers and a in-dash nav. I wish I had gotten the NAV just for the clean factory look.

At the same time, I would sure as heck not give up 4x4 either. I'd give up the NAV before the 4x4 because at least I can add a NAV - plan to add a Garmin Nuvi - mounted nicely to the left of the steering and hardwired there. It will look neat and clean and I will have the NAV. I would not be able to add a 4x4.

Moonroof - I don't care about moonroofs. I think that they are overpriced options and I rarely ever use them. My order of priority would be:

1. 4x4
2. NAV
3. Chrome
4. Moonroof.

In the grand scheme of things - just bite the bullet and get it all. Boy am I happy that I upgraded to the FX4 with the Lux package. I had originally signed up for an XLT and while I would have enjoyed the truck I would have regretted not getting the leather and heated seats - I just like those.

Agree with the going with the Nav unit. It is much more than just a Nav unit and it sounds very, very good.

If you don't go with it/don't want the factory one, then I would recommend getting the base system and not the middle system with Sync. That way you can much more easily add an aftermarket system if you want and not worry about issues with Sync working/not working.

4x4 is not an option for me. While no mudding around here in Las Vegas, plenty of desert fun and four wheel drive makes that much more enjoyable

I bought an '09 King Ranch 4x4 and purposely sought one without navigation or moonroof. To be honest, the navigation is a lot more than just a gps unit but that is something I can live without. A moonroof for me is something I try to avoid because of my past experience. Yes, it's nice to have, but it has it's drawbacks. Like leaks in heavy downpours (the seals aren't perfect). Anyways, I have no regrets for not having a moonroof and no regrets for not having navigation. But test out a truck with a navigation unit in it and test one with the sony radio (sans navigation unit) too. For me, it was a simple decision - I wanted the better radio without navigation and save the $2k difference.

The 18"/20" wheels is a personal style choice that has some impact on your towing capability. Personally, I had to have the 20" wheels even though I took a small hit on the towing capability. I believe if you get the maximum tow package or the 20" wheels, you'll get an extra leaf in the rear springs.

The other option I suggest you consider is the brake controller (it's great and it's a deal). If you're into a little more bling look, the chrome step bars are very nice.

Most factory navigation units are, IMO, terrible. A $200 Garmin you hang from the windshield or (I dunno if the aftermarket has come up with mounting solutions yet) an aftermarket nav/audio unit is elevenity billion times what most factory nav units are.

4x4 w/NAV!

4x4 with NAV. Wouldn't want to do without those. The wheels and moonroof much more subjective, whatever you like. Wouldn't want a pickup without 4x4, and the NAV is amazing for NAV, and for all the other great stuff it does.

The moonroof was like an extra $50 or something on the PLAT, so I got it. It's fine, but honestly could go either way on it. Never use it, but it's there. Keep the shade open 100% of the time for more sunlight into cab which is nice. All in all it's a rather useless option, don't think I'd spend any major money to ever get one as an option.

I don't think the 20" KR wheels are same as 20" PLAT wheels, so can't comment much there except to say the PLAT 20"'s are super easy to clean and look amazing.

The only item I would have opted OUT of for the PLAT (which obviously I couldn't) would have been to go with a solid rear window, because I would MUCH rather have had rear defrost than a little sliding window.

That's my 2 cents throw into the bucket.

Gotta say that the Nav system is simply amazing and even better than I expected. Couldn't imagine being without it now. Especially since it comes with the hard drive to load music (1300 songs loaded so far!). I'm sure there are some great aftermarket units out there that are cheaper and perhaps more functional, but for me having the factory installed unit provides a cleaner look.
