So it works in the sync slot but not when you plug it into the second mini usb slot ontop of the head unit? Have you tried removeing the USB 1 from it's slot and plugging your lead into that. Could be your USB 2 slot is bad?

 

I can only try it on the seocnd slot because of the type of connections...it has power cuz i can hear the HD spinning. Whatever, im really over this..ive dropped well over 120 on this mod and im over it. I now have a backup HD for my computer so ill call it a wash.

Thanks for the tips on setting this up. I did the same exact things as you expect I installed an adapter into the cargo holder for a clean finish.

 

Just finished setting up the USB2 option this afternoon and everything is working great to my iPod now located in the center console

One note on cables. FOr those that have tried this and are having troubles, are you using 4 or 5-ping Mini USB cables?

I used a Belkin 5-pin and no issues at all. I am not sure of the iPod and iPod USB adapter needs the 5th pin, but I would guess some hard drives out there probably do.

So, anyway, something worth checking.

 

Has anyone added this to an XLT with captain chairs? I ordered my xlt with captain chairs and a center console. I looked at a couple pictures and it looks like there really isn't a spot to hide the cable like if I had the center consule shifter. I was just wondering if there is a different way I can route the cable to the center consule and keep the cable hidden. I just want to power up my ipod from the second usb is all. I figured if someone else has done it or knows of a good way to do it, I would get the cable and adapter ordered so I have them when the truck gets delivered.

 

well today i tried in stalling and i cant get it to work... i found a 10ft ps3 cable that will work, i plugged the usb A side into usb port 1 and the usb mini side into the hard drive worked fine, ran the cable from the console, mini usb in console, to the top by where usb2 is located put the cord that came with the harddrive from the usb port to a female-female connecter the to the ps3 connector, and it says usb is empty. it sound like such an easy mod, and im having some trouble with it, any idea??? Btw i installed my integrated trailer brake controller at the same time, in stalled in about 30 mins cuz of the flow through console, but still need to get it programed....

 

Do you have the nav or normal system?

yeah, the top usb mini port that isnt used under the "speaker cover"

 

I ran a PS3 cable (10ft) with a double female connector and had no issues except sync took a crap on me. Dealer replaced module and all works fine again.

 

What i mean is how are you selecting USB2? Are you saying USB2 to the sync or is there another way to select the second USB port other than saying US2 to sync?

 

actually i was going to select usb, and then clicking ok, i thought it would default to usb 2 if nothing was in usb 1

 

tried saying usb 2, says usb 2 is empty

 

alright, i got the hardrive to work some times, i have to unplug the hardrive and reconnect it every time i want to use it, has anyone else had that problem? and if so has anyone found a fix?
