Some interesting wording in that promo peice:

- I didn't know the most underwhelming 'large' V8 in a half ton was so "celebrated"!!!
- Clearly says its the "top of the line" v8 for 09 so no 6.2L for a while. We knew this, but now its confirmed.

Will it be better.... Clearly (6 speed will be the big diff maker)
Will it be enough... we will wait and find out.

some one on here worked out the trnny rations and the axle ratios together and the 09 6 speed tranny in 1st with the 3.83( ithink) gears was lower then the 08 5speed with 4.10's .
I will probably get the 3.55's again as I get 23 miles to the gallon and love it. I am also on 37's and performs perfect.

If you recall the numbers for the diesel based on that info chart previously posted, it said a 9% HP increase and 15% TQ increase over the 5.4L gas.

So based on 320HP/390TQ, the new diesel should be 348.8 HP and 448.5 Torque.

Obviuosly this thing will tow much, much better than the current F-150. If its fast? We'll find out. Thats not my issue.

Tundra, thats the last full size I'd buy. Some people...
I wasnt trying to **** you off, just showing a point.

The reason i mentioned it is because your mentality seems to be EXACTLY like what most Tundra customers are...wanting the most HP/fastest truck. Which is fine, nothing wrong with it. Buy the truck that fits your needs.

Now a lot of us need pickups for work/stuff other then racing. Every summer my truck gets used hard on the ranch, pulling trees out of the ground, lots of hauling and towing trips over grades of 6000 ft+. I want TORQUE, and that's what Ford offers. If i want to go fast i'd have a sports car.

Please take no offense, i am in no way picking on you.

And, once more, three cheers for the "boat anchor"!!!!! More powerful than the (Chevy) 6.0L LS3, more fuel efficient than the (Turdra) iForce!!!

Good ol' boat anchor!

Another factor to consider is how much more the 2009 will weigh. Looks like quite a bit more sheetmetal.

They strengthened the frame while making it about 150-200 lbs lighter. But it will also have more standard euipment such as side air bags and traction control so it will weigh about the same as the current truck, maybe a little less.

Well said. Ford has never led in power. I think most people buy trucks for towing and hauling rather than racing. It's evident by the F150 being the least powerful and the best seller.

As one member alluded to, the 6 speed tranny will make a world of difference vs the current F150.

So basicly we have a heavier truck, with a TAD more power, and 6 foward gears.

So it looks to me it will still be about the same truck..
