The new 6.2 403hp Vortec is primarily only used by GM in the Escalade and Sierra Denali which is not that much different from the Navigator and the Harley option I said above... Every other truck/suv at GM that uses a V8 still gets for the most part the same 5.3 that was around before there truck/suv overhaul which will not make me overly suprised if we are not left with a tuned 5.4 for the most part as our main V8 option for most of the new F150's.
.....again, i'm speaking about a ground up motor redesign....not bored out retreads of an existing platform, ie Vortec...there's a huge difference in development cost. A new motor platform that forms the foundation for powerplants across product lines...costs...it costs dearly...& it will not be limited to a 'niche' model. Yes, there will be variations in power output that WILL be designated to niche or specialty lines...but the engine itself in some form will find it's way into Ford's marquee product, the F-150. It's no secret Ford has been having financial difficulties....if you think the beancounters at Ford would okay massive new engine development costs only to have that investment hamstrung by limiting it's potential market you're dreaming. If you are doubting the existence of the 6.2 as a new motor platform period, that's a whole different ball of wax. I say there are pretty much irrefutable financial bottom line arguments to say that if the new motor platform exists...then the F-150 will see it....period.
