Detoit Auto Show

I drove up to the auto show today from Cincinnati to see the new F-150. went to where the truck was and asked some of the Ford guys about the 6.2, the diesel, and the gas mileage issue. One of the guys that i asked had to go over and ask somebody running the booth about my question cause he had no idea what I was talking about. After about ten minutes he come walking over ad told me that the 6.2 is going in a Lincoln in 09', but had no word as of yet it going into the truck, but did say that I was the third person that asked that same question, and that the engineers are aware that the public wants it to be done. The diesel he tols me was going in 2010, and the gas improvement was comming from something called, " Eco Drive or Eco Boost." What he told me is that a V-6 would go in the truck that would make the same power as a V-8, I looked at him like he had three heads. What about the torque and the hp, he said it would be the same. He told me to go look at the wall by the trucks about it, I did and its a V-6 baically with a turbo on it. If anyone can shed some light on this subject it would be great.

Oh I am new to the boards, I drive a 05 FX4 Black on Black.

What do you need a uber powerful diesel for? I feel no need for a diesel just to drive down to the grocerystore and back. When I do actually need a WORK truck I will BUY a work truck. Its called the F250

I have read a little about it it is basicly a turbo boost powered by the exhaust. I had hoped they would put this boost on one of the V-8's but it looks like just a v-6 from all I have heard so far. I think I read somewhere the V-6 would put out somewhere arround 350 hp. and get much better gas milage than out V-8's

....all 'turbos' are 'driven by exhaust'....there are no secrets to 'ecoboost' or whatever the
f*ck stupid enviro'mental'ist handle they give it...& i emphasize the 'mental' part of that word . What 'ecoboost' is, is simply importing technology that has been in existence, predominantly in diesel engines for decades...namely direct injection...ie: precise fuel metering directly into cylinder. Whereas most gasoline fueled engines have had injectors mounted in intake manifold. With fuel injection directly into combustion chamber you have the maximum control over fuel flow giving maximum power AND fuel economy potential. Combine that with turbocharging and intercooling and you can have big horsepower AND fuel efficiency.

A diesel is more economical.

I am pretty shure that I did mention on a couple of earlier threds that the 6.2 was going to debut in the 09/10 Lincoln Navigator.
The "big money" luxury suv will always get it before the pick up truck does, that is if it is even ever going to show up in the F150 except for the Harley edition.
From what I have been hearing in the last couple days if you guys want a 6.2 then go buy a Navi next year or wait for the Harley because your getting a 5.4, V6 eco boost and a diesle in 2010 for all other models.
I personally wish it wasn't so but I have been getting some pretty reliable info the last little while.

...the 6.2 platform is destined for f-150...whatever model it debuts in is a moot point. Ground up engine development costs capital investment to the tune of 100's of millions of dollars....Ford has to recoup that investment...you don't recoup an investment of that magnitude by limiting it's exposure to 'small run' vehicles like HD or Lincoln. The F-150 is due for a new V-8 platform...hence the 6.2.

Have you seen the fuel economy standards of a gas powered v8 compared to a diesel v8?

My buddy's Chev 2500, which outweighs my truck by atleast double, gets 20mpg on this bad city gas. I get 15 - in my V6... I'd rather pay the 50cents more a gallon.

Over 300 miles, he saves $7.50... And sounds good doin it.

I'm with Stealth

The new 6.2 403hp Vortec is primarily only used by GM in the Escalade and Sierra Denali which is not that much different from the Navigator and the Harley option I said above... Every other truck/suv at GM that uses a V8 still gets for the most part the same 5.3 that was around before there truck/suv overhaul which will not make me overly suprised if we are not left with a tuned 5.4 for the most part as our main V8 option for most of the new F150's.

they should offer us a Ecoboosted 5.4. this would eliminate the need for either a diesel or the 6.2. and this might even convince me to buy a new truck.
