What i dont get is why cant people just be happy with what you have. Get your new truck, personalize it, modify it to your liking and be done with it. Do you all have small ***** syndrome that you feel you need to be seen in the newest vehicle? Believe me people dont care what you drive. Your just flushing your money away year after year. Buying a truck is the worst investment and best way to throw your money away from the second you drive it away. Do something more productive with your $.. Buy a house, Add an addition, Buy a vacation home. Your truck will only depreciate and youll always loose money and theres always gonna be a new model.. Its a vicious circle and soon we'll have to all grow up.

Prior to the '04, my favorite was the pre 97 edition. I never liked the rounded Ford. The '09 is a nice blend of the 04 style and the pre 07 style. I like the more squared off design. It keeps Ford as the most attractive pick-up.

Well, when the older style...what was it? 97-03 came out. I nearly puked and hated it for it's entire life. Therefore I wasn't a Ford owner when the 04 was released. However when I saw the 04 at the car show I had to stop and stare. I admitted right there that it was what the F150 should look like and that it was a Ford that I'd own.

The 09...well I like what I see under the body work, however I'm not an immediate lover of the front end. It may grow on me but I doubt it. We'll have to see though. I won't own one right away, I'll let all the "gotta have its" buy em up, depreciate them and then maybe I'll pick one up in a few years.

I am not one of the 'Gotta have it's' but I don't see how you see it as throwing your money away. First of all, it's like carrying insurance if you always own a vehicle under a factory warranty, you don't have to worry about costly repairs, and if this is your line of thinking, there are many things that one could consider luxuries that could be excused to put the money in some investment. The bottom line is this, if you cannot afford it, don't buy it, but remember, you don't take anything to the grave. Why not enjoy whats available, live life comfortably and do what make YOU happy. If you are happy with your 91 F150 with an old worn out 302, so be it. Thats not me, I personally enjoy all of the state of the art gadgets and electronics available in the new vehicles and I view it as worthy to purchase one with them integrated from the factory. Who wants to drive an old beater for their daily driver anyways, I mean really it's not like you see threads like 'Check out my crappy truck....' Live and let live, and owning 'old' vehicles and investing in property or vacation home may seem childish to some. (Take it to the grave....remember) Have fun and live your life doing what you enjoy.
BTW, I love the 2009 and will probably trade up for it when the new engines are released in 2010 or 2011.

My 04's got 16,000 origional miles are you callin it a beater? I've put 1000's into upgrades now because of a new model i should flush all that money away? Do you know that in less than 1 year your new truck will depreciate at least 10grand.. Do you have 10 grand to flush per year all because of a small amout of money for extended warranty? If you treat it right it'll always look god and be apprieciated regardless of the year and believe me..for me anyway money isnt the issue..it's smarter investments im into.. In 30yrs youll be in your trailer home with your grandkids on your lap with a great story though.."Son when i was a young man i bought 16new ford pick-ups, customized every one of them and spent 1 million dollars and now this is what i got to show for it". Meanwhile ill be in my 2nd or 3rd vacation home boating in the Fla keys fishin thinkin about you my friend. Not to mention takin my stang to car shows and riding my hog..GL

Buying to stay in the warranty is silly...or was silly when Ford was only offering the 3 year 36K warranty. Now that they've extended it out it's more reasonable. A new truck every three years will cost you in depreciation, taxes and interest way more than maintenance over a few more years.

But there's nothing wrong with buying a new truck every few years because you want one. We all spend our money where we want to on what we want. If that's your thing then so be it, enjoy the heck out of it. My money goes into my motorcycles...but I'm not the type that has to have the latest and greatest. But I sure don't mind good deals being made by those who do. Dirtbikes are notorious for this. I'm running a 10 year old bike and my pathetic skills still can't outride this bike. But there's enough folks dumping 2 year old bikes on the market that the depreciation is horrible. So long as they are willing to suck it up and keep the system going, I'm willing to pick stuff up cheap second hand. Same with trucks. I got a heck of a deal on my 04 and I'll keep it for a good amount of time hauling my toys around and then I'll get a new one. I can't stomach what they are asking these days for a brand new one so I'll pick up one slightly used for half the price. But that's just me. You may think motorcycles that are used as toys and not for utility purposes is a waste of money...but that's me.

Your new truck is not going to depreciate 10k in a year unless you have no idea how to deal. I regularly sell vehicles after 2 yrs and 40-50k and always break even or at the most come 1k upside down

In 2004 a friend of mine purchased a used lariat from a ford dealership after i got mine, it had 11,000miles on it in perfect condition w/balance of factory warranty. Sticker price was $39.000 he got it for $27,900.

I could put either a rebuilt engine or transmission with a warrentee in my Ranger once every three months for what the payments are on my F-150, and really they are not too bad. I put in a junkyard tranny 5 years ago ($300 for the whole parts truck) and it still works great. If you can afford a newer vehicle you will have to make payments on I have learned it is better to put enough in a kitty to cover a major repair, and invest the rest in something more profitable. I love my '02 but I probably wouldn't get it again for that reason, but now that I have it I have no plans of getting rid of it. Live and learn...

Personally I don't care for either the two latest styles of F-150 anyway. They look fat and heavy IMO, although the newest attempt does look somewhat better and might actually have a chance of growing on me.

Last yr a friend of mine traded in a 2005 King Ranch w/20k miles that he bought new tail end of 05 at a chevy dealership for a 07 Avalanche. They priced it at $29.999 till this day it isnt sold, it's now priced at $27,488. I dunno what he purchased it for but it was over 40k. You do the math. You can prob get an 07 right now 10k off sticker price as we speak..do a search for some threads.

I can promise you two things:
1. I will never lose $10,000 on any vehicle that I purchase. The money I lose is limited to the cost of use. If you have no negotiating skills, than this may not be the case. In the past 14 years I have owned 20 or so cars(plus bikes and quads), a few being brand new and the rest not. I have broken even on every vehicle I have owned with the exception of 1, and it was not one of the new cars.
2. I won't be living in a trailer park, and I think it's immature for you to even say something like this and thoughtless to use it as a benchmark for someone who made poor decisions.
You have something to prove, and I can't figure it out. I am not on here attacking anyone personally for their choices. All I am saying is, your way doesn't always = the correct way(or only way). Do what you want with your money, and I'll do the same.

But hey, no hard feelings. I don't know what pi**** you off and made you want to start name calling and pointing fingers.
One other thing, my truck is not 'modded' like what you see on here. I have a tuner and tinted windows. (and a few electronic upgrades inside) I think when I mentioned modding that super-modded trucks come to mind.

I never called YOUR truck a beater, as I'm sure it is nice, I was just making a point.

-Aaron

Mine stickered for 35,900 and I picked it up for 26,000. If you are a fool and pay MSRP then yeah you will loose 10k, my point was simply if you pay a far price for the truck you will not loose 10k

No, they're (F150's) not quite as ugly as the Tundra.
