Whether you believe it's fast or not is all relative.
Like you said, IMO. Well, IMO, is just plain 'ol sloooow in stock form. We have the most underpowered stock 1/2 ton 4x4, 5 years running now !! - and perhaps even 6 years.. Sure, it's all relative. And I don't get why you would not want to mod your so called 'daily driver'. I drive 64 miles a day in the truck to and from work. That is my reason to mod the truck ! Makes me like driving it much more. That's why I bought another in 05 after hitting a deer with the 04, but had to trade it because 5.5 foot bed was not working out - great to have friends at local Ford dealer. And my modded truck " does it very well, even safer " ( like I can merge and pass with ease ! )

I'd bet most wouldn't replace their F-150 with another 1/2 ton truck, but rather 3/4 or 1 ton model.

Fact is, the current F-150 tows just fine, and does what it took a 3/4 ton truck to do not that many years ago.
I've had two f150's and 89 and a 98. With a few issues here and there, if I were to replace it with something else, it would be a superduty. I just like ford, and the superduties can haul a lot of ****... don't have to worry about your tranny taking a crap and with the new 6.4 you'll have no limits. My last truck I was pulling a 16ft. moving trailer full to the door of appliances, and average **** and still smoked a new model jetta 1.8t using 80mph as a start, so I'm satified with the power. My newer one is quick enough for me... I'm always looking to make it faster, but like some others have said... If I want speed, well I'll drive my mustang. Oh and the fact that I can hang, and by hang I mean just a few feet behing, with a crew cab hemi dodge makes me laugh if that's what they call a hemi.

The truck has enough power, stock. That's why I went with the 5.4 instead of the 4.6. I drive an 06 Screw with the 4.6 as well.
I don't know if the F150 has been the most underpowered 1/2 ton for the last 5 years, but it seems that most people are satisfied with the 4.6. Sure, sales have gone down, but then they've gone down across the board, and F Series sales have always been a contender. People seem to be satisfied with the 4.6 (enough of them are sold), and the 5.4 is no weaker. I don't need to mod, because it merges and passes without a problem, and then some.

I know it's fun to mod, and I'm not knocking you for it. I got that out of my system with the Mustang.

Maybe this is true if you just aren't the modding type and extra power and torque are not your game. But, mod a 2004+ with the 5.4L (especially the 2007+) with Troyer, AF-1, and exhaust and then tell us that again. I doubt you'll be singing the same tune. It's not just a bit of difference... it's a WORLD of difference. You'll wonder how you did without it.

Even though you can have more power, I don't need the extra power, just as I really didn't need the extra power in the Stang. The Stang on the other hand is a toy. I had fun modding it, so the power and torque and modding were/are my bag, but only as far as a sports car is concerned.
The truck does what I want it to do, so I guess what I don't know (since it's not a necessity), won't hurt me. I'm sure those mods would make a world of difference, but I don't care about going down the 1320 a second faster, or accelerating quicker with a truck that already accelerates to my satisfaction.
I'm not modding the Focus either, and I didn't mod the Taurus when I had it, if you can imagine.

Bottom line here is, a stock 5.4 is plenty for most. It sure is for me.

I'll second that. I have nearly 30k on my '05, I tow a travel trailer weighing in around 6k lbs, and I have NEVER gone WOT in my truck. NEVER! So, I'm guessing the 5.4 has plenty of power for me since I have never even tapped all of it.

I think it's time for someone to blow a little carbon buildup out of the system

I have the 4.6 with 3.55 & 33"s and I still think it is pretty quick. I am much more concerned with TQ than speed and this lil 4.6 surprises me with what it can do. I recently added a AF1, and soon will have Troyer tune it, but thats more for towing than speed

I see that everyday. I sells recreational vehicles! And I can assure you that no other Half Ton haul better than the F150 ! A 2008 Laredo 30BH Fifth-Wheel, no trouble. A Dodge Ram Hemi with a 2008 Laredo 29RL ? THE BUMPER IS GONNA TOUCH THE GROUND !!!

Here's some number to compare the two RV:
