Replacing oil drain plug

I notice the oil drain plug is not magnetic. Is that for a reason, or simply skimping on an extra step in manufacturing process; or bc those bolts are simply made generically and they fit the engine drain holes? Seems to make sense to be magnetic to me to catch any shavings n whatever. Anyone have thoughts on simply magnetifying it myself with a magnetic tool to magnify/demagnify screwdrivers n tools?? Or even just putting a small magnet to bolt head [on outside of course]. Just wonder why some makers use magnetics and others dont. I'm interested in other's thoughts and logic. And is it necessary to replace washer/gasket each time? I get mixed answers on that. Crush washers, regular washers. I've even heard of guys using old spark plugs with proper threading; that makes sense for keeping hands oil free.
Which oil weight & filter do you guys use? I'm in Houston TX 5w20 sure seems thin.

5W20 synthetic blend or full synthetic is the recommended oil, especially for the 5.4 3 valve engine. Use a Motorcraft filter.

Thx glc. What you think about Mobil1 M1-210A? I've read good reviews. I'm thinking if I'm gonna go with a longer lasting synthetic oil, I should use a filter thats rated for more than 3000-5000 miles.

Those are good filters. However, the 5.4 3v does not like extended oil change intervals, regardless of the oil and filter used. If you have a 4.6, go for it.

It's the VVT system. The cam phasers can be fussy. Also, no cam bearings, the cams directly ride in the head.

You don't want to dive into that rabbit hole.
