Bigger tires, stock truck

I have an 08 150 supercrew 2wd. My stock tires are 255/65/17, I want to go bigger but dont want to do any lift or leveling. Anybody running bigger tires on their stock truck and rims?

I’m running (32”)Cooper ATP 275/65/18s on my ‘08 2WD Screw with factory suspension/wheels. No rubbing, no issues whatsoever. Went up from Nitto Terra Grappler 285/60/18s (31.5”). Nittos looked great and the width filled out the wheel wells, but I couldn’t justify spending $950-1000+ on tires again. The Coopers were under $800 installed and a taller tire but 10mm narrower, still looks good. I don’t think you could squeeze more than 32.5” without a leveling kit.

I had a stock 2005 F150 Extended cab with 33s that barely rubbed the plastic at full lock. Pretty sure they were 285 65 16 Nittos All terrain tires.

I too am interested in this. I currently have the 255/65/17 on stock 17" rims on my '08 regular cab STX 4x4. I was looking at going with 275/70/17 on the stock rims and then was thinking of a leveling kit (2.5"?) after that.

You sure they were 16's? Smallest stock wheels on a 2005 were 17's.

Pretty sure that's what my spare is under the rear on a steel 17" wheel.
Maybe it's a 265/70/17?
On the road are OEM type 275/55-20.
I know some run 275/60-20s which are taller … and if they'll fit, I'm pretty sure the 275/70-17s would fit too.

Been researching it more...appears you can run 315/70/17 without leveling but am now leaning towards 285/70/17 which might be a happy medium between my stock 255/65/17 and still reasonably priced while keeping my OEM wheels.

Theres no way you could run 315/70/17 tires stock. That's a 34 inch tire. I had 33 inch tires and was getting some rubbing. You'd tear something up bad with 34s.

285/70/17 is what I ran, which is a 33 inch tire, and I had slight rubbing at full lock but nothing bad.

Interesting...I had read a thread on another F150 forum about the 315's fitting. I am looking at a leveling kit, most likely the complete Rough Country N3 struts for the front. But I planned to do new tires first. So if you had to do it again with the 285's would you have still went with the 285/70/17 or a 275/70/17 for the stock rims?

I would have stayed with the 285/70/17. But I did not have stock wheels. My aftermarket wheels stuck out about an inch so I don't know if that will affect it or not. I did extensive service too and everything I seen said 33s was the absolute max stock and most said one size down.

I'd say 34s would be pushing it with a leveling kit too. I know they say to lift 6 inches for 35s. I'm sure you can fit them with less lift than that though.

If you have the factory fender flares, the 285s will come out perfectly flush with the flares on factory wheels. 275s will get you 5mm inside the flares. They will be almost identical in that aspect.

I was thinking of going to 305/50-20s n rear only, keeping the 275/55-20s on front?
