‘06 5.4 gas to diesel swap questions

Not sure if this is the right forum, buuuttt I have an ‘06 5.4 XLT screw that ive been toying with the idea of swapping a 4BT or 6BT Cummins into. I’m a complete newb to vehicles (small engines agree with me better), so I’m looking at any info needed to do a full proper swap and estimated costs. Thanks!

I would go with a 4BT. The 6BT is too heavy for a 1/2 ton.

Don't expect hardly anything to work with the diesel engine.

Thank you for that link. I’m pretty sure that the Cummins r2.8 would be my best bet since the kit isn’t too pricey and it comes with everything but the intercooler. They say that little engine not only takes up little space but produces more peak horsepower stock than the 4BT. Plus having that kit from Cummins would be so much easier than trying to piece together every part on my own. Hopefully I wouldn’t even need to upgrade the tranny but hey I’m gonna give it a shot once my finances allow..

Did some more research and determined that I would actually be losing power doing this swap (with the r2.8 vs my stock 5.4) so would supercharging be smarter than a diesel swap when it comes to cost, ease of install, and power gains? I’m really looking for more torque. Horsepower is great too, but I need the torque.

And what do you want to do with your truck? Towing? I'd just get a SD with a 6.7l and call it a day.
