Ac issues, advice needed
Whenever you open the system, whether you replace components or not, it needs to be evacuated with a vacuum pump after you put it back together. This will remove any moisture in the system.
My Haynes manual says,
When any major AC component (compressor, condenser, evaporator) is replaced, or the system has been apart for any length of time, the accumulator/drier must be replaced.
I also thought and was told this should be done?
I know the Haynes is not the best manual.
Roadie, The Ford shop manual?
Where does one get one of these?
Can you buy one?
PDF download online anywhere?

I do appreciate everyone passing on all the info. I plan on going into the shop to speak with them tomorrow.
Bottom line, I shouldnt have had to bring my truck there 3 times to get the ac fixed (leaving it over night each time). It shouldn't have been whining after they fixed it if they had done it the right way. They should have known what other parts need to be replaced when the compressor is replaced. It shouldn't be my (the customer) job to tell them how to do it the right way. They told me I had a lifetime warranty from the start. Not my fault the company they choose to work with gave them the wrong info.
I'll offer to pay for parts but not a penny for labor for the rest of this. I've already paid labor once. It's their own fault they've had to spend so much time on this. As I said, had they done it right and known what they were doing, none of this would be still going on. And yes, they call themselves a competent shop that also specializes in ac repair. I wish I'd gone to the ford dealer.

You may have had more recourse if the dealer had done it but they charge twice as much up front anyway. An trustworthy independent shop is the best course. But, I don't know how you find those.
It's gonna cost me about $500 more at this point. However, they will be installing a new morotcraft compressor, morotcraft reciever / dryer and morotcraft orifice tube.
They are warranty-ing the prompressor, the labor for installing the compressor and the charge. I'll have to pay $90 as the motorcraft compressor was a little more, and labor for the dryer and orifice tube ($80/hr) plus the price of the oem dryer and the oem orifice tube.
