2004 F-150 Crew Cab Rear Door locks

Hey Guys,

On our 2004 F-150 Lariat Crew cab we've noticed the rear door locks don't unlock when the driver or passenger opens their front door after driving the truck. The truck is equipped with the auto locking doors.

The rear door locks work properly when we use the key fob to unlock them. However after we go for a drive with passengers in the backseat and they try to open their door before the driver unlocks all the doors the rear door locks won't unlock. We tried to pull up on the lock plunger to unlock the door without luck. It happens on both rear doors. If the inside door handle isn't grabbed before the driver opens their door the rear door unlocks properly. We try to lock and unlock the truck with the key fob, but the rear door doesn't unlock if the handle was grabbed by a passenger before the driver opens their door. It seems like there is a switch somewhere that may not be working properly after the rear door handle is pulled.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thank you!

Sounds like a child safety feature.

if it is a child safety feature, then there should some kind of switch/lever to change it. Owners manual??

Open the door and look for the child safety lock switch. It's on the door directly above the door latch mechanism. Put the switch in the marked unlocked position.

Thank you for the suggestions! I thought the child safety locks were turned off on the rear doors last time I checked. I will definitely check again and post back with an update.

I have this same issue on my 04 SCREW FX4... If one of the rear passengers tries to open their door from the inside before I hit the unlock button, they won't be able to get the door open.

Same thing happens to my rear doors (2004 FX4 SCrew). Tried messing with the child safety lock feature without any results.

not sure but on the drivers door sometimes there is a extra on/ off button. Check the owners manual "rear door locks".
