Custom Rear Bumper

Going to start working on the rear bumper soon. Only when its to cold to work on the front bumper on the truck. This is some pictures of it at different angles using Sketchup. I haven't worked out the brackets to mount it to the truck yet. Only because I haven't looked at how the current bumper is bolted on. Adding brackets later won't effect how the outer shell is designed. Will be made with a mix of 1/4 and 3/16 A36 steel.

Very nice concept! Looking forward to seeing a finished product.

One of the top 5 most wanted mods to my 06 lariat are front and rear bumpers. Just don't have the cash to drop on what they cost.

Cheers

I'd rather use a thinner gauge steel and then rub a half pipe brace behind connecting all of it.

x2 on the shackles.

Making it out of 1/4 will be plenty strong enough. If you're curious about the pipe bumpers, here's mine from Bodyguard.

Here's the backside

Here's the front afterwards. You can see the weld in the middle of the circle and square.

I'm going to put shackles mounts on it. I won't know where until I have the mount made up to bolt to the frame.

Pipe bumpers make it a little hard to add lights to the face of the bumper the way I want.

absolutely, thats why I had an extra couple inches welded on. regular plate steel is a lot easier in that aspect.

Well it was to cold this last weekend to weld outside on the front bumper. So I started working on the parts for the rear. Here's how the corner step pockets turned out.

Cool starting to make progress! Can't wait to see the finished product.

What's with the little hole on them?

The hole is for a light but only a small LED eagle eye. That way you can see where the step is on a very dark night.

That's exactly what I was thinking they were there for!

How about making them red and having them work with the brake lights?
