Making progress on the custom winch bumper. Have spend about a month thinking and using Sketchup to make a winch bumper. Along the ever so wonderful cardboard bumper plans. I started using cardboard to get a general idea of what I want to make. Then I switched to using Sketchup, less cardboard cuts!!!











First bumper mount design was a no go.

 

The bumper mount final design. 2 mounting bolts are pressed in grade 10.9 wheel studs. Still need to drill a hole in the frame for one of the mounting points which is a regular bolt.













Finished truck bed coating.

 

The center area of the bumper is almost finished. Still need to drill to mount the winch fairlead and weld on the shackle tabs.

Today the 3/4 D-rings came into the store. The weld-on shackle brackets are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.

 

I already have a set of 27w LED fogs to install in the bumper. When I was moving things around the garage I found a box of LED gold. 17, yes 17, 9w white eagle LED bolts and it got me thinking, custom fog. So I grabbed a small section of 3/16 and went to the drill press. I'm going to test wire it up just to see how bright it is tomorrow.

9W X 17 = 153w per fog. Not for everyday street use, lol.

Here's some quick pictures of the single custom fog light. The stop sign is 4 houses down the street seen on the left side of the pictures. The flash was turned off on the camera. Picture were taken from behind the light and pointed the same direction as the light.

 

I'm just hoping that the cardboard one is nothing like the finished one because that gap looks terrible!

I'm trying to upload pictures of my bumper from TAG. But the bumper goes right up to the headlights and looks great, please say you are doing this.

Did a slight redesign to the bumper compared to the original plans. The wings are made using 3/16 plate.

 

I don't think it's low enough to plow snow.
