Lifters And Rockers?

Hello All,

I getting ready to do the timing set, cam phasers, oil pump and water pump on my 2004 F150 5.4 with 217,000 miles.

I'm wondering if the consensus is if I should also replace rockers and lifters? Is there anything else I should also do while I got it undressed?

I did the spark plugs about 20,000 miles or so ago.

Thank you,

Inspect them for wear. If they're within tolerances, keep 'em.

Thank you but how would I know what within tolerance is? I should note that this is my work vehicle but I'm taking a week off to do this job and all of my parts come from Rock Auto. Once I get it apart I don't want to wait for parts to get in. Would these normally wear out after 200K miles?

Thank you,

I'd change 'em.

Also - don't use Dorman valvetrain components - Motorcraft only:

Lastly - don't fergit the new latest-rev VCT solenoids & seals ( and don't fergit to inspect & clean the VCT solenoid bodies ), new tensioners and guides, remove/inspect/clean sludge off the two CPS's, etc, etc.

Good luck!

Howdy.

CPS - Camshaft Position Sensors. There are two - on fer each bank - mounted just below the valve covers. They can get kinda spoogy.
