LED tailgate bar fit issue

So I went to install my new tailgate light bar and ran into this little shaft coming from the tailgate. I was trying to use a 60" bar and it barely catches
on this when opening and closing. Anyone out there have this issue when installing? thinking maybe some are made thinner and can still clear. Let me know what brand/length you are running on yours, Thanks

Oh Its an 07 Super crew if that helps

I had installed a recon one on my parents 06 mk lt. Had the same issue as you. Ended up removing that little stud. Couldn't see an actual reason for keeping it.

It crossed my mind and I have a cutoff wheel. I just wasn't sure if it supported the tailgate when it was open or if it served any other purpose

Part of the "easy" close system....coil spring on shaft inside the tailgate

The tail of the spring that sticks out can be cut.....try to reseal the cut end to prevent rust

I installed one of those light bars, and as I recall, I shortened the pin using a grinder. Hasn't caused any problems.

I also used some stainless steel screws to help secure the light bar to the truck. I didn't trust the sticky tape surface on it to last without help.

I've had mine on for at least 8 years, maybe more and it still works perfectly.
