Broken Leaf Spring 04' F150 Fx4 "Question"
Broken Leaf Spring 04' F150 Fx4 "Question"
Hey All,
So i have a 2004 F150 SCAB with 130000 miles on her. I recently put in a 2.5" HBS Leveling kit and it was perfectly level. Until i noticed the other day that its sagging down on the driver side. Further investigation, i saw that i have a broken leaf spring in the center of the leaf pack.
My question is what leaf springs should i be buying to replace them. On both sides of course.
Any help would be great and apreciated!
Thanks

I'ld go visit a salvage yard and pull a set off the rear of another late F150 with two center bolts, (maybe newer with low mileage) wreck that was maybe hit in front. Maybe use it's main leaf, maybe keep mine .... but slip the newer leaves in place and just store extras away. I might would even aim to end up with one extra leaf in there.
Back in the mid '70s I had a '73 Mustang that sat really low in the rear with standard suspension, it was a nice car, a "Grande" which was loaded, just had soft springs. I took a set of Charger springs that were the same width, took the packs apart, took the Charger main leaf and cut the eyes off each end after marking length so cut ends would be almost under eyes of Mustang's leaf springs. I put this one now cut and smoothed long leaf in my Mustang's spring packs between the top main leaf and the other lower leafs. Raised the rear maybe 1-1/2 inch at most, just brought car up level in rear, but also a little stiffer ..... and never again did I feel the axle hitting the bump stops when me and my friends were riding.
Not on a "truck", but rather a trailer I built once using the frame and short bed of a '66 F100 2wd from under cab back (cab went on a F100 4X4 a guy was "restoring"), and wanting stiffer springs after I removed pinion and ring gear and bolted a plate in place of pinion holder, flipped the axle to on top of leaves and used another spring pack and added 3 of those leaves in with the stock leaves that came with that short bed / frame .... I maybe used longer U-bolts .... I also removed the brakes and drums, left backing plates in place ....
.... and while I had less clearance axle to frame, I ended up with really stiff springs that kept the frame off the axle even under a load .... and a trailer that was easier to load.
