Smelling gas in my 08' mark LT

Hello,
I apologize if this topic has been addressed already.
Last week while driving to the store I heard a sound that sounded like I had been driving on a flat tire.......flop flop flop flop flop.
I pulled over and tires were fine.
Getting back in truck and drove away fine with sound gone BUT.....
I started smelling gas in the cabin. Its been there ever since.
Its faint but clearly gasoline smell still.
Any idea's?

Thanks in advance guy's.
......Philip

Check to see if any of yer sparkplugs have loosened. Uncommon, but has happened to folks. It can result in that smell.

good luck

+1 on the loose plug. Had the same thing after a plug change.

Personally, I'd suspect a saturated Evaporative Emissions Control canister. If you regularly "top off" the fuel tank when you fill up with gas, I think you can cause it to do this, but it should clear if you stop topping off.

Otherwise, the system may have to be replaced.

Someone told me when I was ~16 that topping off is bad, but this is the first I've heard of this. Thank you.

It's been a bad idea since gas tanks were invented.

Gas expands with heat - needs somewhere to go. With the advent of evap control systems, it goes into the vapour collection tube and eventually saturates the media in the canister.

Still - nine times outtta ten at the Costco pumps, folks is madly a-clickin' away, squeezin' in that last microliter of gas. Despite all the signs posted saying not to. Sad, that.

Nice catch, Sir Jack.

Well a week later, the gas smell is back.
Went back to dealer and they can't figure it out.
You can smell raw gasoline faintly under hood and big time in the cabin.

Did they check the other possible causes listed in this thread? A loose plug is going to involve some actual work on their part to inspect, as are loose injectors, faulty o-rings, fuel rail fittings, fuel filter fittings, etc ... even the PCV system ...

good luck

So much for my "nice catch"...

Wonder if they didn't hook something up right when they serviced the evap system? It doesn't take much gas to create a strong gasoline smell.

Roger that, Sir Jack.

It IS a complex system, after all.

OP - best of luck!
