05 5.4 starts then dies

Went out to move the truck to the shop to put some new goodies on fired up idled about 2 min then started dropping then died had fuel smell. Now when I try and fire it fires then dies, if I keep starting after about the 3rd time it wont fire. I turn key off then on let sit for a sec and it will start then die. I unhooked the sensor on the air box at top no diff. I tried throttle while starting get a few more rpms but still dies right away. I don't have a code reader but did notice the little wrench on the dash. Good oil pressure when it does fire.

If you smell fuel, you may have a stuck injector and you need to take care of this RIGHT AWAY before it hydrolocks.

A working link to the letter is in post #62.

You should get a code reader, they are only about 20 bucks.

Thank you for the quick reply. The motor has been replaced and checking now to see if the injectors were done also.

the fuel smell was only when it first died. Now nothing it just seems like there is no fuel getting to it. Should I be able to hear the fuel pump with key on? Just drove the truck with no problems last night. I have only had it a week since it got back from the body shop. I also cleaned the engine bay last week super clean and pressure washer.

Ok so now when I remove the air box (was gonna replace anyway) I dump a little fuel down in it with open throttle starts runs longer. It appears like fuel starve any fuses could have gone? The dash also says check gauges?

Ok took batt off and while I was waiting I put new cold air intake on spectra. (box don't fit well) so after I try and start same thing until 3rd try and it stays running with throttle open then cleans up both cel and the little wrench on dash shut off then refire just cel then after about 1 min wrench comes on and runs rough. going into town for code reader, want to get programmer also. No im not taking it into town taking the f350

Check the FPDM for corrosion. That's a common issue. It's on the rail above the spare tire. Unbolt it and check the back.

Looks like you may need a new throttle body and/or TPS - or you have some trashed wiring. Might be the sensor on the pedal itself. Clear the codes and see which ones come back. Those throttle bodies ain't cheap.

Just disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Some scanners can clear them.
