I'm known as a "youngin" . I agree that the 4 cats straight pipe sound on a Triton engine is not obnoxiously loud, but it is quite un-toned and thrash. I much prefer the clean tone of a well made muffler, and the removal of the 2 rear cats, or replacement of hi-flow cats for all 4 OEM, and the sound is heavy, audible a ways away, but still toned and respectable in the quiet hours.

I myself wouldn't run a Y pipe straight pipe system. Put a good muffler in, and change the cats if desired. Sometimes the money invested into the quality system is the better way to go.

A flowmaster 40 too loud? Yikes. A 10 is quiet too me. Touch the cats and we have a different story. As it's been stated loudness is not usually the issues. It's fools that give those of us who like loud exhausts a bad rep. My preference is find a tone you like and increase the volume.
