Coming back to stock...

hey guys,

I know this is not the right section but i can never seem to get any answers when i post in the audio forums.

So i have an 08 lariat that had stock nav and sirius to begin with but about 2 years ago i replaced that with a pioneer headunit and the pioneer sirius module.

Well i saw the isimple product online (bluetooth, ipod, hd radio etc) and purchased it because i wanted to go back to stock looking nav. Really the only thing i use the radio for is Sirius, bluetooth streaming songs and sometimes using the navigation.

I purchased a nav unit on ebay that was from an 08 Fusion as well as a stock sirius module. However, i have it all connected now and the only thing that doesnt work is the Sirius radio.

So heres my thoughts:
1) the nav needs to be reprogrammed to f-150?
2) bad sirius module
3) the stock sirius module doesnt work with the isimple? i was almost positive it did though.

what do you guys think?

Thanks!

I doubt the unit needs to be reprogrammed for this particular issue. If your steering wheel controls or other items weren't functioning, that might be an issue. Why do you need Bluetooth in order to use the factory sirius module?

Sooner-

Yes steering wheel controls are working (didnt think that was the case, just said it because you never know)

im not sure on your second question: i do not need bluetooth to use the sirius module. I was saying that i added the isimple bluetooth module so that i could wireless stream songs to the headunit and talk on the phone when i do not want to listen to Sirius.

when i connect the nav normally, without the isimple, and try to go to SR i get connection error- see dealer. Also when i try to connect my iphone to the AUX in on top of the dash it says MGM connection error- see dealer.

my next question would be, the sirius module said it came from a f-150, then nav unit came from a fusion. Should there be any problem with this? All connections are the same, so i assume its programming?

I have the Isimple unit in my 05...Love it (on second one...first one fried at tabout the 5 year mark)!

I think you need a regular Sirius XM unit, and not the add on unit for a pioneer stereo...I have a Sirius Starmate (I think), and run it into the isimple through the headphone type jack, and run my ipod classic or iphone 5S through the iphone cable, and can run up to one more device through the phono jacks...its a good unit for a stock head unit...

I have the Audiophile unit with subwoofer, 6cd...I like it just fine...

Oh yeah, the Starmate is mounted to a ProFit FO-04-75L mount...

Regards!

Just talked with Brad at www.4dtech.com and he said it is most likely a faulty Sirius tuner. Cool site btw, going to be adding basic features of the sync system in my 2008!

So just a background, I have always wanted a 09+ nav unit in my 08, unfortunately that was never possible because of sync. However today trying to figure out this problem i found the site www.4dtech.com and emailed them to see if they were able to retrofit an 09+ unit to use in an 04-08. He said not yet but they are very close, they are just waiting to design/build a CAN-BUS adapter!

Just thought i would bring this to peoples attention as I thought it was awesome and ordered it, should be here saturday.

I will let people know how it goes. Since I talked to Brad at 4dtech he told me to check some settings in the new nav radio i bought and he said with what was activated it would support Sync.

Sounds like a lot of expense/trouble just to go back to the factory NAV (regardless of year) for Sirius and iPod. It would seem that the Sirius module you have is causing the errors, as I don't know why the external unit would need any programming from the head unit. I think it only has a three-wire harness, right? R/L audio channel and a turn-on lead?

yeah i think it is the sirius module, the seller is sending me a new one. Actually it is not too expensive, less expensive than buying a new aftermarket unit (depending on what you like)

09 Ford Fusion Nav Unit- $350
Sirius Module Tuner- $32
Sync Retrofit Kit- $250

You'd have to really want the OEM look to drop ~$600 to get a DVD/NAV system that won't outperform a $400 aftermarket unit. I can count on one hand the number of times I've used my NAV system, lol. Google Maps is miles ahead of anything Ford (Pioneer) made in 2008/2009. I've used Sync, but aside from the hands-free cell compatibility, I don't see it being much more than novelty.

What can I say I just like the look of stock nav over aftermarket. I also know that aftermarket is better but i also hardly use the navigation system, i use my brain or my phone. However I was constantly having problems with my pioneer, to each their own. If I was to get aftermarket I would be spending $1k+ because I want the top of the line. Like I said I really only use the radio for Sirius and Bluetooth streaming audio. This is just what I want, I'm sure there are other people in the same boat as me and I was just sharing

I'm not arguing aesthetics, as I do normally prefer the factory look of the Ford NAV units, I was just mentioning that there are better options as far as functionality is concerned for less money, simply for others who come across the thread. Nothing wrong with what you're doing.

I believe it was for trucks equipped with traction control.
