Please help Lisle Tool Fails

Hi all,
Looking for any solution here. I did the dreaded spark plug change on my 05 F-150, did all the prep work, and had the lisle tool 65600 ready to go… well right out of the gate I broke the first plug (passenger side front) proceeded on and was lucky enough to get the other 7 all out ok.

Tried extracting the broken plug, however when I try to tap the broken plug with the lisle extraction tap it will not bite…. Tried tapping lightly with hammer to set it still extraction tool will not bite…

any suggestions????

Thx
Ben

i had that issue with one of mine, i modified the tool slightly, i ground the shoulder off the tool to allow it to tap deeper and was able to get it out.

Just changed my work truck. 05 with 100k. Broke all 8.
Did you crank the porcelain breaker all the way in? I had trouble with one so I moved on and came back to it. Used the breaker once more and cranked the remover tight as I could. It pulled out fine. Are you blowing it out with compressed air first? The one I had trouble with had a bunch of junk down there gumming up the threads.

Set the guide tube all the way down, then bottomed out the pusher, blew out the cylinder several times, however there was a lot of porcelain in there.

Going to clean out the cylinder with a flat tip screwdriver to loosen any gunk, then blow it out again, but not sure if that will help much???

Seems as if extractor tool is either just a hair too small, do they make a tap just slightly bigger?

Thx

Do not push the porcelain all the way down. You can break the electrode loop and it will hook the side of the head and never come off.

ask me how I know

Well, got it as far down as the pusher will go already, but its not that it is stuck, the extractor just won't bite in order for me to pull the rest of the plug out, hopefully if it ever does bite I won't face the issue you had…which I don't even want to know about, I could imagine it wasn't fun.

Thx

Jut called Lisle, they recommended that 1. Grind off 1 tread of the extractor tool to get it to seat better, and if that didn't work. 2. Use lock-tight and let it cure overnight to pull it.

Asked them if those 2 options didn't work then what, he mentioned that Snap On has a tool that is working pretty good too…

Anyone know the name of that Snap On tool???

Finally got the plug out last night, it was a combo of grinding the Lisle extractor down by about 1 thread off of it and giving it a slight taper, but that still wasn't enough to get it to bite. I then used a tap set (5/16th.) to get some of the residual porcelain out of the way and rough up the sides of the metal on the stuck plug, put the extractor tool back in and gave it a good couple of hits with a hammer to force the threads down enough, and it finally took hold.

THAT SUCKED! It almost made me want to get rid of this truck, and I've been a Ford guy for decades!
