Has anyone swapped out their 2004/2005 front bumper for a 2006-2008?

Well bad news... a 2006-2008 bumper will NOT work on a 2004-2005. The 04/05 mounts to the hitch by torx bits on the top of the bumper and the 2006-2008 bolts on the back side (see picture, 2005 is silver, 2008 is white)

That's the back bumper you have pictured. If your 05 back bumper is in good shape fix or touch up any paint flaws and put it back on and worry about the front. The back bumpers look the same from the outside. Put the 08 back bumper back on craigslist and recoup some of your money.

The rear bumper was the main reason I bought them because mine is dented on the drivers side. I'm about to throw both the front and rear bumpers back on Craigslist and be done with this. My other option is to cut the mounting points off the back of the rear bumper and drill the holes in the top to make it work but at that point there is no return lol the front is a whole other deal that's aggravating me because the more I look at how the 2005 and 2008 differs I think I need an upper valance too. I wish my buddy still had his 07 so I could compare them side to side but he traded it in for a '13.

Sorry to hear about this misfortune. In post #2 I did mention that the rear bumper it isn't a direct swap, but your plan was to swap skins correct? So a '06+ skin won't swap to '04/'05 mounting hardware due to the hitch mounting assembly. Man Ford made this a real hassle. I thought your main goal was the front end though.

The upper bumper pad issue has been known to be a hit or miss. Something may need cut to what I recall. You can retain the original 2005 pad and but an '06+ bumper in though. There isn't a full write up on the job but I over read a couple people did it.

Thanks Darren. If I just cut the mounting tabs off the back of the rear bumper and drill holes in the top it will work with the hitch. I doubt I would get my money back by selling them so screw it lol somehow someway these bumpers are going on my truck!

Can someone with a 2006 2007 or 2008 please post a picture with your hood open and the upper bumper by the hood release/trans cooler area? Thanks in advance

*Update*
I just ordered all the brackets and fog lights from fordparts.com. $221 with shipping and tax whatever lol could have gotten everything cheaper from ebay/rockauto but I wanted everything to be OEM. It was only like $30 more through fordparts.com anyway and I just sold my towing mirrors which paid for this so it's cool

Today I did the mock up and got the 08 front bumper mounted! I still need to bed line it but it's still too cold to do so. A couple things should be noted: if you do the swap you WILL need the 2006-2008 lower valance as it doesn't fit right and the upper valance and the upper mounts for the hood release don't match up. Oh yeah, and if you reuse the bolts from the 2004 and 2005 bumpers you will need to drill anf open up the 2006 to 2008 brackets mounting holes

Good job! I still think it's way too much work, but I bet you feel good having completed it! Such a pity that that bumper has almost perfect paint too! What color is it? I'll be upset if it's Oxford White like I need

Get rid of the back bumper and get a proper one. That's one thing I never understood, but I guess the dent in yours explains it. That one really is a lot of work with zero gain.

It wasnt that bad actually. Once I found all the part numbers for the brackets that are required it was smooth sailing. I used all the bolts from my bumper and just swapped them over to the 2008. I dont think its oxford white, its the white platinum I think. It looks good in my picture but it has rock chips and little surface rust but dent free. The back I might work on this weekend but it will work once I break out the cut off wheel and drill. Im extremely happy I got this done and made it work. Im excited to bed line them and I'll be ordering the proper valance once I sell my front bumper
