2006 F150 Horrible Idle!

2006 f150 , 5.4L.

Slammed on my brakes and the truck stalled. Tried to restart it and it either just cranks or sounds like it's running on 4 cylinders and dies.

Any ideas where to start?

Will it smooth out if you give it some gas?

It does improve but is still very rough. It also doesn't show any codes if that helps.

How many miles and have the plugs been changed? If so be sure the COPs are on correctly and have dielectric grease. I also want to suggest the cats are clogging due to age and a rich condition but until you get a code popped up that might be ruled out.

64000 on the truck, 15000 on the motor. As far as I know the plugs were changed with the motor.

Heres a video of whats happening:

I loosened the intake thats whats shaking in the video.

All the cops seem to me tight, I can't get at them at the moment to take them out. It really sounds like its only running on one bank or the timings out. I don't know how that could could have happened from slamming on the brakes or stalling it though...

A loose intake is going to make it run like total crap.

Loose because I have the supports off to get easier access. Truck runs the same either way.

here's my usual list of things....

clean the maf with maf cleaner
clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner
change the fuel filter

check the FPDM....its located on the cross member in front of the spare tire....it likes to corrode on the backside or at the connector

fuel pump...you'll need a scan tool to verify fuel pressure...

Start checking wiring and wiring connections, seems odd that this would happen simply from slamming on the brakes which makes me think it might be wiring related.

Slammed on the brakes and something moved or got pinched.

Split down the middle. I couldn't justify $260 for a new at the dealer, so I went through amazon and should have it in a few days. Even if it ddoenst fix the problem it probably will save me a lot of trouble later.

Bingo!

That explains the relationship with braking

Good job! That IS a very common occurrence this time of year. FPDM issues are spiking .

BTW - Napa, AutoDrone, Not-Advanced, etc may have them OTC. Dorman is the brand.
