Glad to hear you found the issue, never would have guessed based on your description of when/how it happened.

Just an FYI if anyone wants a decent price on the OEM FPDM we have them for $106.98 plus shipping.

Just an update for you guys. Truck went to the dealer. They're saying the timing chain skipped a couple teeth and that the engine is shot. The worst part is that it had a new engine put in 06/07/12 @ 45,000 miles (@66,000 now) and they will not cover it under the replacement warranty.

Was this a Ford reman engine? If so it would have a 3 year unlimited mileage parts and labor warranty on it.

I'm guessing it was a factory warranty replacement - and I don't think those have the extended warranty. If that's the case, after 5 years or 60k there's no more warranty.

Yup. They said because it was replaced under warranty that the engine does carry any warranty, only the remainder of the Trucks original warranty. Warranty was over shortly after they did the repair.

Disappointing seeing as its a pretty much new engine.

Heres a little more info on this and how wonderful ford can be.

Apparently the old engine was replaced under a esp. They will not replace the engine because I am not the name under esp. Best part is though, back in November the same dealer performed work on the truck under the esp and told me I was covered.

The dealers cost to fix is $9500. Even a smaller shop is going incredibly expensive, So I'm out a couple grand on truck that had 20k on the engine, and now is worth hardly more than it is to fix.

If it was replaced under the factory warranty or ESP it would only have coverage under the remainder of said warranty, the situation is not any different than it would be with any other manufacturer, it's industry standard.

I'd love to know if it was actually a Ford ESP or an aftermarket ESP, it's possible it wasn't even a Ford reman that was installed if it was an aftermarket ESP.

HUH, how can slamming on the brakes cause a timing chain/belt to skip two teeth? I would have to get a second opinion from another shop, not a second opinion from another mechanic in the same shop. Jus my 2 cents And at a second thought, unless valves and pistons had a close encounter, how is the engine shot? Can not a new timing belt be installed ? Sorry but I am really skeptical of ford shops after what I went through with our 2013 eco , they told me stories for 3 mths before actually repairing.
