Now, if I were storing it for 6 months, then I'd use Stabil and take some other preservation measures.

 

Agreed/ Stabil is a bit overkill on a 2-month hiatus. It won't hurt anything to use it, but it certainly isn't necessary.

 

The fuel stabilizer recommendation is not about the fuel separating or stratifying, it's about the hygroscopic properties of the ethanol in the gasoline. The stabilizer will keep the gas from sucking the humidity out of the air causing water to be in the gas when he comes back. You can't assume the guy has top tier gas or that he's in a dry climate.

 

Thats true! I use a fuel stabilizer in my Harley Davidson Motorcycle when I put her asleep for the winter because of the 10% ethanol in the fuel nowadays!
