Keypad install question

I installed a keypad on my truck ( 04 XLT screw) and nothing. I've read that it might have be turned on if the dealership will do it. So my question is if the dealership won't help can I get the bsm (the box behind the seat I think that's the name) from the truck that I got the keypad from and it work? I'm just wondering cause I could get it cheaper than taking it in I bet. But will it mess my truck up if I mess with it? Sorry I just don't want to mess anythin up thank you and I could use anythin

I had this exact issue back in 2011 with my old 2004 truck. Turns out 2006+ are all activated, 2004/2005 are not activated. There is a programming method I was shown from a post from our fellow member Code58, and I printed it and gave to the tech at the dealer, and he was successful at activating it. One minute and i'll dig up the link(s).

My original thread of this topic.

Here is the post that Code58 gave me that I printed, and the dealer tech was successful at activating the VSM.

If you can not get them do do this, try other Ford dealerships. To no avail, then replacing your BSM with a 2006+ unit is the only option, and after that, you need your PATS system reprogrammed to function again. Basically, a minor hassle.

Yes. Tell them you discovered that activation proceedure online and you want it done. It ran me $37 plus tax when I had it done.

Hopefully that procedure still applies to the IDS - which has replaced the WDS.
