When do you give up?

When do you bite the bullet and get rid of your F-150? I just find it hard to get rid of one of the best trucks I have ever had. Not many problems, no major problems. Wife keeps telling me we need to replace my truck before we replace her car. I keep telling her that I can fix everything on my truck when something goes wrong...thanks to the advice from this board. 04 FX4 Supercrew 209000 miles and still going!!!

That's awesome! I loved my 2005 but the wife's nagging finally made me cave in. We are on the highway a lot late at night and she was worried about breaking down in the middle of nowhere. I bought a new 2011 two years ago and already have over 60,000 on it. I loved the 2005, great truck. This 2011 has been just as good and though I love the 5.0 engine, just don't have the same feelings for the truck. To me, the 2005 looked better than the new ones. I like the better gas mileage though. That has saved some dollars when you consider the miles.

I usually give up when the wife's nagging gets to me....

or the cost to maintain and repair outweighs the cost of the vehicle....

I really like my 04, but if the wife said I should buy a new truck, I'd be at the Ford dealership before she finished the sentence.

I held out for about a year, but then I decided it would just be my luck for an altenator to go out about 1:00 in the morning. At our age, would not be real good and I could hear the "I told you so!" too loudly in my subconcious.

In the 70's I started looking for a new truck when mine had about 60k or so on it. Through the 90's I drove them 140 - 170k with few problems. Now as long as they are dependable I'll keep them 250k+.

I just sold one with 288k and really it was still a damn good truck. I have a kid that works for men that has an 02 or 03 F150 SCrew Lariat with 322k that looks brand new. He recently had the drivers seat bottom cover and foam replaced and the interior is pretty much perfect.

At this point I'm keeping them as long as they hang in there for us. The only ones that scare me at all are the diesels. Even then the 7.3's don't concern me much. We only have one of those left in our small fleet but it is still a great truck that I wouldn't be afraid to head out anywhere in.

My personal pickup is an 06 with almost 200k on it. I was thinking abut trading it off not long ago and pulled off the grille guard, tool boxes, etc. I took a couple of days off and went looking to trade for a new one. I probably drove more than twenty new trucks and I didn't find one I liked better than my SCab. I like the 6.2 trucks a lot but I didn't see one optioned the way I want them and the other engines just don't do it for me. The 5.0 might after you got used to it. I didn't care for the ecoboost.

We've had a t on of 5.4's, 2 and 3 valve, and I love them. Aes long as we aren't pulling a big trailer all the time with one I even love it in the Super Duty. I've decided to just freshen up the old 06 a bit and save myself about 30 grand (that I don't really have anyway)

I'm not sure there is a number anymore that I would say to get rid of by for sure. AS long s it's dependable and you still enjoy it I say keep it. I know that's how I'm doing it. I plan on getting another 100k out of mine.

you sir have an awesome wife. that being said, if its a safety concern breaking down in the middle of no where with kids or what not, its probably time to replace, granted any rig will break down. but i own an 04 and my work truck is a newer body style with the 5.0 and i love it. power, mpgs, its all better except for the looks imo. i just dont like how different the front doors are in length from the back.

but if the wife is pushin for it i say take a trip down to the dealership and look at some trucks, it cant hurt. and if they offer you 2k trade in for your truck, keep it as your commuter haha

I never had any problems with my 08, i owned it from new and just sold it with 56k on the clock.
Most will hate my new ride, it's not a Ford.

Well back in the 90's I bought new Fords about every 3 years. They were all mustangs. Then I bought my first F150 had it almost 6 years about a week shy of 6 years. Got rid of it as the transmission started act up a little at 96k miles. Bought my current 05 and in November it will be 8 years with it as of now it has 136250 miles on it. Still going strong still working on paying some other debts of before I go new again but hopping next spring sometime to have a new F150 or Mustang GT. By then this truck will have over 150k on it at my current rate of driving.

BTW, with all your toys, you have no reason to be asking such a question!

NEVER give up, NEVER surrender--until she throws a rod through the engine block. Then, slap a reman in her and KEEP going
