new tires and shocks for my 05 fx4
new tires and shocks for my 05 fx4
I finally got my new tires and shocks/level installed!
After a lot of agonizing and your help, I went with rancho quicklift coil overs in the front and 9000xl adjustable shocks in the back.
For tires I went with nitto terra grapplers 295/70 18 on stock rims. overall dia 34.4.
I ordered the shocks from 4wheelonline on a friday and they showed up on monday morning (free shipping too)! Tires came from tirebuyer.com and were $70 cheaper than anywhere else I looked (also free s/h). I had a local guy install all of it for me in about 2hrs.
First of all it looks awesome!! and the ride is 100% better than stock.
It still has a small amount of rake but I like it. The tires fit no problem, no rubbing anywhere or at full lock.
I havent messed with the shock settings yet, just left them where they were, 5 in front and 6 in back.
I drove it to the OBX (600mi) and back last week and did a little beach driving too. she performed flawlessly off road and the tires did well on road with a little more noise than the OEM BFG's. MPG's have dropped a little but not enough to whine about. As far as power loss I think its minor (but noticable) and she does slip into passing gear a little earlier.
My plans for the future include a tuner to adjust for the new tire size and a tonnaeu to offset some of the mpg loss.
I hope this helps somebody who is in the decision making phase, I am overall very happy with the change.
Ill post some pics in a few days. My phone died and my pics were on there.

Looks good! That's how it should look from the factory!
I'd love a set of 295's but my trucks a big enough pig with 275's I don't think I could stand the power loss with a 34.5" tire. Next set of tires I get I think I'm going with 33's.

Ha! I know. I have since cleaned my wheels and they are nice and shiny.

The power loss is really not that bad. I think I can make it up with a few mods starting with a tuner.
