I have seen some pretty amazingly dirty plugs come right out with an impact on various videos I have watched, just make sure you have all the right tools on hand.
Well I guess I'll know in a day or two. Just dropped off the truck at a local shop that I trust to do the plugs. Don't trust my local Ford stealerdhip service shop for this. I only take it there for "The Works" oil change and tire rotation. The owner of this shop and his lead mechanic are Ford guys and they have had very good results in the past with the 5.4 from what they tell me. Yes, I should have had this done months ago....

They are checking the FPDM as well.

I would really like to see the outcome of this. I am having a very similar issue. slight incline 45-50mph with light acceleration i get a multiple jerks, hesitations. i did change FF. I've heard that its a plug issue and I've heard its a bad ignition coil.

How many miles on your plugs? Most often, it is the plugs, especially if they have 75,000 or more on them. Occasionally it's a weak coil. The coils are extremely durable.

i got the truck with 35k miles so i have to assume they are the original plugs. it now has 87k.

Im doing mine tomorrow, hoping that it's the plugs, I will certainly post back either way. Unfortunately I probably wont know if it fixed it until Monday unless I notice a huge overall improvement in power/throttle response.

I'll be watching this one too. I'm on the other end though...I've replaced my plugs and coils but not my fuel filter or fuel pump driver module.

Odds are very good that it's the plugs. You won't be wasting money to change them, its time. If the problem is not corrected, then you can suspect the COPs.

Hey Fellas,

The co-owner and the lead mechanic called me this morning after they both took the truck for a ride. They got it to reproduce the hiccups during the test ride. The co-owner's first thought was trans issue, maybe empty-flush-replace fluid. The lead mechanic said plugs. I said have the owner drive it when he gets in and call me. They checked the FPDM and it looked o.k.

He called after lunch and said no doubt the plugs are the issue. I said go ahead and git r done! They will heat her up good, spray her down like a $4 hooker and let her soak overnight. More to follow.

Plugs are done.

Took me about 2.5 hours taking my time. None of them broke, used a very weak Hitachi 12V impact. I did not pre-loosen any of them up except for number 8 which the impact would not remove with the universal joint and an extension.

It was time - the gaps on those old plugs look pretty wide.
